Photography as an analytical view of reality

Until December 13, the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando (Calle de Alcalá, 12) exhibits a selection of works by the Catalan artist Xavier Miserachs (Barcelona, 1937-1998), doctor and photographer at the same time. Furthermore, in 1964 he published an important reference work for the world of photography, Barcelona in black and white, a visual introspection into the public and private life of this city with a definitively documentary perspective, although at the same time interpretive and critical.

It should be noted that Miserachs's photographic works share an analytical vision of reality, full of wisdom and sensitivity within the documentary framework. For him, the photographs have to convey reality itself, as well as the feelings and vision of the photographer.

The exhibition is divided into 4 sections: The first is made up of Barcelona in black and white (1964) The puppies, with text by Mario Vargas Llosa (1967); La Fábrica (2010) and party of confusion (1974). The second is Costa Brava Show (1966); the third consists of Barcelona (2015) and Full of contacts: Memories (1998) and lastly, photographic criteria (1998), one of his last published works.

Montserrat Soto, great images of an anthropological and social nature

The ENAIRE Foundation, as part of PhotoESPAÑA 2021, is holding a photographic exhibition by the visual artist Montserrat Soto, whose work is essentially based on place, the space and landscape; in addition to the void as the fundamental element of it. The purpose of this exhibition is to capture the social changes produced between 29 and 2.

It should be noted that Soto's works represent an attempt to transmit the decisive forms of the human being over time and in different places in order to understand it at an individual and collective level. This has been the result of his innumerable trips around the world, at the same time that he has been able to create a personal atlas made of videos, photographs, flags and books.

Consequently, in this exhibition the processes of evolution and great transformations are visualized through images of an anthropological and social nature. In this way, his artistic works reflect concepts as important as tolerance, cunning, inclusion, reflecting on censorship, nomadism and, above all, the limits of art.
