Index.comunicación Awards 2021: A recognition of the quality and trajectory of scientific dissemination

The magazine celebrates its first awards ceremony

Within the framework of the celebration of the tenth anniversary of the applied communication magazine Index.comunicación and after a year of the covid-19 pandemic, the First Edition of the Index.comunicación Awards was delivered on November 11 , in the graduation room of the Fuenlabrada campus.

The activity began with the words of the editor and head of the magazine, Belén Puebla and the vice-dean of technological infrastructures and professional sectors, Mario Rajas. Immediately afterwards, Pedro Pérez Cuadrado, co-founder of the magazine, and Magdalena Nebot, director of the Libraries of the Rey Juan Carlos University, made a presentation where they put on the table issues as important as open access to science and the need to support scientific journals from institutions.

Next, the masters of ceremonies, Bárbara Castillo, associate editor of the magazine, and Paolo Chinchayhuara, community manager and member of the publication's visibility and social media council, presented the different categories that make up this first edition of the awards.

The delivery of the awards and certificates was in charge of the editorial staff and collaborators of the magazine, sharing the stage with the winners, who offered a few words of thanks to the attendees and to the magazine. The categories presented were divided into: First and second most cited articles in JCR in the miscellaneous and monographic sections in the period 2011-2021; monograph with more citations according to Dialnet metrics, in the same period; best reviewer 2020 and honorary award 2021.

In the miscellaneous section, Francisco Gallego Calonge won the award for the first most cited article, an investigation entitled: "Social TV Analytics: New metrics for a new way of watching television." In second place was Joao Canavilhas with the publication “The new media ecosystem”.

On the other hand, in the monograph section, the first most cited article was “'Fact-checking' vs. 'Fake news': Confirmation journalism as a component of media competition against disinformation” an investigation carried out by Gabriel Lotero-Echeverri, Luis Miguel Romero-Rodríguez and Amor Pérez-Rodríguez.

The second most cited article, in this section, was the work developed by David Rodríguez Mateos and Tony Hernández Pérez, entitled "Social television in fiction series and new roles of the audiovisual documentary: The case of 'The ministry of time'".

The last award in this category went to the most cited monograph, coordinated by Elpidio del Campo Cañizares, Begoña Ivars Nicolás and Belén Puebla Martínez, “TV SERIES: Ficciones de nuestra tiempo”.

The journal recognized the effort of external collaborators, as was the case of reviewer and honorary award, framed in the commitment to disseminate the research published in the journal with quality.

The category of best reviewer 2020 went to Clara Muela Molina, professor of Advertising at the Department of Communication Sciences and Sociology. Finally, the honorary award category went to the Dialnet Foundation for its work in the creation, management and development of Dialnet, one of the largest databases of scientific literature in the world in Spanish, and for the implementation of the Dialnet Métricas project (Portal indicators of scientific production).

Finally, the event closed with a violin concert by Gerardo Fernández Farfán, a former student of the Rey Juan Carlos University, and a toast with all the attendees.
