Jon Apaolaza, Antonio Carlos Solís Monge and Paula Olvera participated in this conference on the challenges of new cultural journalists.

This Monday, November 20, the conference was held How to spread culture among generation Z? for the students of the Master of Cultural Journalism and New Trends at the Rey Juan Carlos University, at its headquarters on Quintana Street. The invited speakers were Jon Apolaza, journalist with extensive experience who runs the website News, and two former students of this master's degree, Antonio Carlos Solís Monge, currently communications and press manager of the Teatro Pavón, and Paula Olvera, head of communications at WithArthritis y Too Many Flash, as well as director of the blog Correveidinos.

In response to the question that led this conference, Apaolaza began his speech by stating that “interest in culture is a seed that must be planted in childhood.” Of course, according to him, there are strategies to make culture more attractive to new generations: very well-planned content, short, sincere, close, that draws attention quickly and taking advantage of new technologies such as the possibilities of interactivity.

The speakers also offered their vision of the current employment landscape for cultural journalism. They were honest: there is precariousness and unemployment in the sector, there is a lot of competition and the threat of artificial intelligence. However, corporate communications positions have more offers. The three speakers agreed on the importance of seeking opportunities proactively, with enthusiasm and perseverance. They also highlighted the usefulness of making contacts and not being afraid to ask. They also recommend being aware of cultural and training offers. With these keys, at least, they have managed to turn their passion into their profession.
