The FCEE acquires greater commitment to the University Service Learning Office (ApS) of the URJC

The FCEE aims to intensify and enhance ApS projects within the framework of the Faculty's University Community.

On November 27, through a FCEE dean's meeting with the head of the University Service Learning Office (ApS) from the URJC, Rocío Samino aims to offer greater involvement in order to promote and encourage the participation of both FCEE teachers and students in projects related to ApS activities. ApS as an active student-centered learning methodology allows the development not only of curricular and professional competencies, but also social competencies through activities that affect the civic, ethical and social dimensions of the teaching and learning processes.

Since its creation, the ApS has been experiencing growing interest among the University Community due to the comprehensive education it provides to the student body and the benefits it offers to the surrounding community. However, currently at the FCEE few service-learning projects are being carried out, highlighting the project of Professor María Jesús Delgado and her team in collaboration with the Fuenlabrada City Council, and the interdisciplinary project developed by Professor Rocío Samino and his team in collaboration with the Nave Boetticher Platform  (See URJC current news)

The FCEE considers it relevant to promote this service within the University Community of the Faculty of Economics and Business Sciences as a learning teaching tool and process oriented to the needs of the social environment in collaboration with university higher education. The U. ApS Office of the URJC shares this idea, considering it essential to make ApS known among the Faculty's teaching staff to promote the use of this methodology in the subjects of official degrees. The ApS is a tool that manages to strengthen and/or acquire knowledge, develop new skills and competencies, both professional, specific to the degree, and socio-affective, while transferring knowledge to society and helping vulnerable groups or improving a social problem. As all ApS projects are linked to one or more of the sustainable development objectives of the 2030 Agenda, sustainability is also worked on in the classroom as long as the specific SDGs of the project are influenced.

Among the objectives pursued by the FCCE with respect to ApS -objectives in line with the U. Office of ApS of the URJC-, are offering greater awareness to members of the University Community in this type of teaching and learning approach, as well as as well as, encourage the development of these projects by promoting the creation of work groups not only between teachers and students of the FCEE but also the creation of interdisciplinary groups.

The FCEE, in coordination with the U. ApS Office of the URJC, belonging to the Vice-Rector's Office for Quality and Strategy, will hold at the end of February an Information Day on ApS for the teaching staff assigned to our faculty, which will have the participation of teachers, students and collaborating entities, with the aim of transmitting the experiences of ApS projects carried out and/or in progress, and promoting ideas of ApS projects for the Faculty's teaching staff, so that they can include service-learning in their subjects by presenting a project to the U. ApS Office of the URJC.

On February 14, 2024, the FCEE will offer an Information Day on URJC Service Learning for FCEE teaching staff. More information and registration: (link)
