INTERUNIVERSITY PROGRAM FOR SENIORS 2024
The Ministry of Family, Youth and Social Affairs, through the General Directorate of Care for the Elderly and Dependency, and the Madrid public universities of Alcalá, Carlos III and Rey Juan Carlos develop the Interuniversity Program for Seniors. It is intended for people over 55 who have previously completed the “University for the Elderly” Program or comparable studies at one of Madrid's public universities.
2024 Interuniversity Program Overview
Offer of URJC seminars
MIDDLE EAST IN THE INTERNATIONAL CONTEXT II. Professor: Mr. José Manuel Azcona Pastor.
The structure of the course consists of the analysis of countries in the area and their political, social and economic spheres, but also the role that each of them plays in the area and in the multilateral scenarios of the Today's World. The aim is to analyze the geopolitics of the Middle East with its own peculiarities under the protection of a space of total globalization.
With this course the following countries will be studied: Cyprus, Afghanistan, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Yemen. Likewise, jihadist fundamentalism will have a place in our analyzes based on the knowledge of its origins, its identity, the most significant terrorist groups and the tragedy that represented the creation of the Islamic State.
All students will be given the teaching materials prepared by the professor for this interuniversity seminar. If any student wishes to join without having attended the first seminar, they will also be provided with all the material from this seminar that complements the one we will now undertake.
DATES AND TIMES: June 10, 11, 12 and 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
PLACE: Madrid Campus. Manuel Becerra Square, 14
THE ART MARKET: EVOLUTION AND CURRENT SITUATION. Teacher: Ms. Ana Pilar Vico Belmonte.
The art market is a great showcase for works of art, extraordinary collections and price records. An environment in which you can learn and admire from the hands of its professionals who carefully study the pieces to later display and sell them.
This course presents a program with which to learn about the types of works that appear in auctions and art fairs, as has been done since Roman times and even earlier dates in which artistic collections have been a reflection of prestige and know.
Knowing how auctions, art galleries and fairs work will be two of the main topics of the course, which aims to teach how the art market works and its main interests, for which a practice in the form of auctions will be carried out. In the last class there will be a workshop on forgeries of works of art in which the most basic methods of identifying fake works will be taught.
This program aims to provide a general but accurate overview of the art market, which will help to understand how it works and how to navigate it.
DATE AND TIME: June 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14, from 12:00 to 14:00 p.m.
PLACE: Madrid Campus. Manuel Becerra Square, 14
EMOTIONAL REGULATION AND MENTAL HEALTH. MYTHS AND EVIDENCE. Teacher: Ms. Cecilia Peñacoba Puente.
Emotional regulation is an essential tool in people's mental health and psychological well-being. All people experience emotions in their daily lives, although there is a lot of individual variability when it comes to becoming aware of them, naming them, understanding their meaning and regulating them. That is precisely what this seminar aims to do. Get closer to our emotions, to their meaning, to consider them as useful tools for personal growth. Paying attention to our emotions opens a path of personal knowledge through ourselves and others. From an applied approach, we will review and reflect on the different emotional myths, on our learning history regarding emotions and on the complex world of thoughts that surround them. In short, this seminar will allow us to understand our emotions as “useful warnings” of our role as active agents in our mental health.
DATE AND TIME: June 10, 11, 12, 13 and 17. From 16:00 p.m. to 18:00 p.m.
PLACE: Madrid Campus. Manuel Becerra Square, 14
FROM THE EARTH TO THE STARS. Professor: Mr. Manuel Arrayás Chazeta.
In this course we will take a walk from Earth to the rest of the Universe, describing natural phenomena on increasingly larger scales. At these scales our galaxy is an atom if we compare it with the size of the Universe. We will learn about gravity and the laws that govern the Universe, as originally understood by Newton and his successors, and as later understood by Einstein and physicists today. We will use these laws to unify the description of the phenomena observed in the Cosmos. Not only will we marvel at the world we live in and the scientists who discovered what we know. The purpose of this course is to understand how our Universe works by learning advanced physics ideas, and to start thinking the same way scientists do. No prior knowledge is necessary: it is for all audiences. After all, to go to Mars you only need to know how a sail works.
DATES and TIMES: June 10, 12, 17, 19 and 24, from 18:00 p.m. to 20:00 p.m.
PLACE: Madrid Campus. Manuel Becerra Square, 14
FROM GOYA TO RAMÓN A CAJAL: The most unknown century in Spain (1808-1907). Professor: Mr. Enrique San Miguel Pérez.
Spanish citizens live in municipalities created in the 19th century, integrated into provinces delimited in the 19th century, they are governed by a constitutional order whose first expressions occurred in the 19th century, their ordinary life is regulated by codes written in the 19th century, It lives within an institutional and state landscape established in the 19th century, and some of the political parties and union organizations that have been holding institutional and government responsibilities in the 20th and 21st centuries were born in the 19th century.
In any territory, you will enter into dialogue with the impact of the 19th century on your life. Because the spaces essential to the ordinary life of Spanish citizens, but also of the eighty million visitors it expects to receive this year, acquire their origin in the 19th century, where everything that was born retains meaning, validity and influence.
We live in a country designed in the 19th century. To what extent do we know that century? Is it worth stopping to examine its mark on the Spain in which we live?
DATES AND TIMES: June 11, 13, 18, 20 and 25. From 18:00 p.m. to 20:00 p.m.
PLACE: Madrid Campus. Manuel Becerra Square, 14
THE GREAT SPANISH DISCOVERIES IN AMERICA AND ASIA. Professor: Mr. Fernando Gil González.
The most important great expeditions were those that took place in the so-called Age of Discoveries during the 1492th-1513th centuries with the voyages of Christopher Columbus (1519) and Vasco Nuñez de Balboa, who crossed the isthmus of Panama and discovered the South Sea (1522) or Ferdinand Magellan going on an expedition through the Pacific, discovering Guam and the Philippines being completed by Juan Sebastián el Cano (XNUMX-XNUMX). In the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries, Íñigo Ortiz de Retez arrived in New Guinea, the Marianas, or the Carolinas. Likewise, the presence of a Spanish settlement in the Pacific, in Cebu (Philippines), was promoted thanks to Miguel López de Legazpi, while Andrés de Urdaneta discovered the return trip; that is, the return route from Asia to America. With this, a transpacific route was established through the Manila Gallon that would begin its journey in 1565 and conclude in 1815. Finally, in the XNUMXth century, there was an interest in the knowledge of natural history, engineering, recipes medical, precision in geographical-geodetic data, observation of astronomical phenomena, ethnographic study and that of the institutions of the explored territories.
DATES AND TIMES: June 19, 20, 21, 24 and 25, 2024. From 12:14 p.m. to 00:XNUMX p.m.
PLACE: Madrid Campus. Manuel Becerra Square, 14
