INTERUNIVERSITY PROGRAM FOR SENIORS 2023
The Ministry of Family, Youth and Social Policy, through the General Directorate of Care for the Elderly and Dependent Persons, and the Madrid public universities of Alcalá, Carlos III and Rey Juan Carlos develop the Interuniversity Program for Seniors. It is aimed at people over 55 who have previously completed the "University for the Elderly" Program of three courses, or comparable studies, at one of the public universities in Madrid.
2023 Interuniversity Program Overview
Offer of URJC seminars
THE BASES OF SPANISH FOREIGN POLICY (1978-2022). Professor: Mr. Alfredo Crespo Alcázar
With this seminar we intend to analyze the distinctive features of the foreign policy developed by Spain from 1978. The Transition-democracy binomial implied a new orientation of the international relations developed by our country. Thus, Spain managed to integrate into those organizations that required a rule of law as a necessary condition, with the European Economic Community standing out in this regard, in whose application for membership there was a high degree of political and social consensus, a phenomenon not perceived in what affected to other supranational entities, such as NATO.
The consolidation of Spain as the Rule of Law, with high levels of freedoms (civil, political, economic...), caused the projection abroad to accelerate and multiply. In this regard, he managed to give the relationship with Latin America significant space on the EEC-EU agenda, without forgetting the leading role in the launch of the Barcelona Process in 1995.
In the XNUMXst century, scenarios and actors have emerged that have influenced the formulation of Spain's foreign policy. In this regard, it is worth noting the geoeconomic importance of the Pacific region, the question of security in relations with the neighbors on the southern shore of the Mediterranean and the instability in the Sahel. Spain has given a proactive response to all of them, always defending multilateralism as an effective tool for solving local problems and challenges, but with regional and global projection.
Dates and times: September 26, 27, 28, October 3 and 4, of 12: 00 to 14: 00 hours.
Location: Madrid Campus. Manuel Becerra Square, 14.
ESSENTIAL TITLES OF HISPANIC AMERICAN LITERATURE. Professor: Rafael Fuentes Molla
In this seminar of the Interuniversity Program we will address each week one of the most prodigious writers of Latin American literature of the XNUMXth century -among them, five Nobel Prize winners-, and from his social and biographical context, we will explore in depth the essential keys of his best book.
Each chosen title will be analyzed for its ideological content, its levels of meaning, its structure and its stylistic resources, as well as any other aspect that makes this work a unique and innovative creation, and a pinnacle of literature written in Spanish. The exploration of each one of these works will allow us a better understanding of an exceptional period of literature in the Spanish language, recognized as a moment of formidable inventiveness on an international scale. Topic 1: Corn men and Miguel Angel Asturias. - Topic 2: The kingdom of this world and Alejo Carpentier. - Theme 3: Residence on earth and Pablo Neruda. - Theme 4: The Labyrinth of Solitude and Octavio Paz. – Topic 5: One Hundred Years of Solitude and Gabriel Garcia Marquez. – Topic 6: Conversation in the Cathedral and Mario Vargas Llosa. – Topic 7: The Aleph and Jorge Luis Borges.
Dates and times: September 27th; October 4, 11, 18 and 25, of 18: 00 to 20: 00 hours.
Location: Madrid Campus. Manuel Becerra Square, 14.
POWER YOUR PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT. Professor: Mrs. Sheila López Prados
In this seminar we will take a tour of personal development, in which we will discuss: self-esteem, motivation, emotional intelligence (emotional management, self-knowledge...) going through theoretical aspects and their subsequent implementation.
Personal development encompasses actions that generate an improvement in people's awareness and identity (knowing ourselves better). When the individual feels calm with himself, it is very likely that he is also calm with his personal environment. personal development It is a deliberate effort to take full advantage of people's potential resources and increase their ability to adapt to changes and circumstances that affect their lives. It constitutes an interrelation action with oneself or as a team. The people who carry out these actions develop and improve their capacities, aptitudes, qualities, abilities, and decision-making, to achieve personal improvement with a better quality of life. Therefore, it is essential to have a good Self esteem, And a good emotional intelligence.
For this reason we want to achieve in this seminar an improvement in emotional management, help to get out of the comfort zone, view and put into practice different techniques and exercises of emotional intelligence, self-regulation, stress release, worries, etc. The Self esteem is capacity that people have to value ourselves. This capacity has a lot to do with self-confidence and the general opinion we have of ourselves, and we achieve better self-esteem through greater knowledge and implementation of emotional intelligence.
Dates and times: October 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, of 18: 00 to 20: 00 hours.
Location: Madrid Campus. Manuel Becerra Square, 14.
FASHION AND REBEL. HEGEMONIC CLOTHING AND DISSIDENT CLOTHING IN THE CONTEMPORARY WORLD (1850-1968). Teacher: Ana Esther Santamaría Fernández
The concept of fashion, as defined by the French philosopher Gilles Lipovetsky, was an event that developed, in the modern sense of the term, from the second half of the XNUMXth century. This was a two-headed phenomenon that led, on the one hand, to the birth of what became known as Haute Couture, an activity identified with craftsmanship, luxury and uniqueness, and, on the other, the progress of highly standardized clothing fashion. and industrialized. This tandem, with some intermediate variables, remained more or less stable for a little over a hundred years, until the end of the XNUMXs, with the establishment of the concept of prêt-à-porter, moment in which this centenary system began to break down to become the complex scenario that is the fashion of our days. Throughout this course, an approach will be made to the main milestones of this evolution from two points of view: on the one hand, the one that marked the dominant trends and, on the other, the dissident reactions to the hegemonic dictate.
Agenda: 1 Crinolines, dandies and the first reformers: fashion from the birth of Haute Couture to the First World War (1850-1914); 2. Asceticism and excess. Ways of dressing in troubled times (1920-1947); 3. 50s optimism and the rebel without a cause; 4. The revolutionary 60s and the consolidation of the prêt-à-porter; 5. The swan song of Haute Couture and the awakening of youth.
Dates and times: October 4, 11, 18, 25 and November 8, of 16: 00 to 18: 00 hours.
Location: Madrid Campus. Manuel Becerra Square, 14.
MATERIALS ENGINEERING AT THE SERVICE OF SOCIETY. Professor: Mr. Alberto Jiménez Suárez
Materials surround us in our daily lives, from the chair we sit on, the tools to make the chair, or even the raw materials needed to build both. In fact, the evolution in materials technology once allowed us to store our history by developing paper, whereas today we can read without paper or carry more books than we could read in a lifetime, stored in the size of a key ring.
The seminar will involve a walk through the science and technology of materials, which, already in its most primitive version, has been marking the historical milestones of humanity, to the point of calling periods such as the Iron Age or the Bronze Age and, more recently, coining terms such as the generation of plastic or silicon. Evolution is so rapid that such a broad temporal perspective is not necessary, but rather the same person can use a car with completely different materials than its previous model, or bake a birthday cake for their grandchildren in a silicone mold, when his children's cake was made in a metallic one. Terms such as carbon fiber, silicon, graphene or nanomaterials, represent the solution to some of the challenges of today's society such as electronics, renewable energy or space conquest and the seminar will briefly review throughout all of them.
Dates and times: October 5, 6, 20, 26 and 27, of 16: 00 to 18: 00 hours.
Location: Madrid Campus. Manuel Becerra Square, 14.
SOCIAL BASIS OF PERSONAL HAPPINESS. Professor: Mr. Luis Vicente Doncel Fernández
Happiness is a concept that does not have a unique meaning for all people, and its achievement can be achieved in many different circumstances. Happiness is represented differently in different cultures; nor is your search valued similarly. We know that the achievement of a happy life is based on biological, psychological and social bases. In this seminar we will analyze, from a sociological perspective, the interrelation between these dimensions of human life and their contribution to personal happiness. We will pay special attention to the social interaction between people and social groups with whom we live in our sociocultural context -currently technological and global-, in order to explain the influence of the relationships between the individual, culture and society when it comes to experiencing the What do we mean by happiness?
Dates and times: October 16, 23, 26, 30 and November 6, 10: 00 12 to: 00 hours
Location: Madrid Campus. Manuel Becerra Square, 14.
