INTERUNIVERSITY PROGRAM FOR SENIORS 2022
The Ministry of Family, Youth and Social Policy, through the General Directorate of Care for the Elderly and Dependent Persons, and the Madrid public universities of Alcalá, Carlos III and Rey Juan Carlos develop the Interuniversity Program for Seniors. It is aimed at people over 55 who have previously completed the "University for the Elderly" Program of three courses, or comparable studies, at one of the public universities in Madrid.
2022 Interuniversity Program Overview
Offer of URJC seminars
SOCIAL STRUCTURE AND SOCIOCULTURAL CHANGE IN CURRENT SPAIN. Professor: D. Luis Vicente Doncel Fernández.
In the sessions of this interuniversity seminar, the structural changes (social and cultural) that have occurred in Spain in the last four decades will be studied from a sociological perspective. We will pay special attention to the most significant elements and variables, focusing on those in which the most relevant changes have occurred in said period: in demography and family structure; in religion and social values; in socialization and education; in the economy, work and new technologies; in politics and new social movements; in everyday life and leisure. All of them basic and interrelated social structures, due to which we will deal not only with a fragmented description, but also with a holistic explanation, since each one of them interacts with the others, in order to adequately analyze the changes in Spanish society during the period that goes from the approval of the current Constitution (1978) to the present.
Dates and times: September 28, October 5, 19, 26, and November 2, 10: 00 12 to: 00 hours.
Location: Madrid Campus. Manuel Becerra Square, 14.
MATHEMATICS FOR REAL AND EVERYDAY LIFE. Professor: D. Regino Criado Herrero.
It is undeniable that mathematics plays an important role in society, as it is present in any facet of our daily lives: in the use of bank ATMs, in mobile phone communications, in weather forecasting, in everything Regarding the new technologies...
In this course we present and analyze, in an entertaining way, the connection between mathematics and some of the activities directly linked to daily life, as well as its relationship with other disciplines directly involved with these activities, all from a historical perspective of mathematics, providing a dynamic view of the evolution of science and technology.
Objectives: Approach tools and concepts that relate problems, aspects and facets of daily life with the elementary techniques and mathematics that allow us to understand and support their correct resolution, from a pleasant and rigorous vision.
Dates and times: September 29, October 6, 13, 20 and 27, of 18: 00 to 20: 00 hours.
Location: Madrid Campus. Manuel Becerra Square, 14.
THE POWER AND STRENGTH OF WORDS. Professor: D. Fernando Vilches Vivancos.
«Since the world is a world, Dr. Juan Casado tells us, in his book Memories and confessions of fifty years of pediatrics, it is known that there have always been healers who healed thanks to empathy, confidence in gestures, songs and the words that provoke even miracles». This interuniversity seminar is about the latter: about the power that we have forgotten that words have. Along the same lines, we see it written in El fuego invisible, the planeta prize of the writer Javier Sierra: «We often forget the power of words». With them, we love, but we also cause other people's anger and even death. Faced with its thaumaturgical power, we find the apotheosis of the neutral, the politically correct language that tries to distort the use of that language, depriving it of its meaningful history so deeply rooted in human beings. If, as Aristotle said, the human being is the only animal with a word, it is worth studying, understanding, respecting and loving them. In this seminar we will talk, then, about the word and its manipulation; and, above all, its beneficial power.
Dates and times: October 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31, of 16: 00 to 18: 00 hours.
Location: Madrid Campus. Manuel Becerra Square, 14.
WHO ARE YOU? PERSONALITY AND SELF-ESTEEM. Professor: Ms. Sheila López Prados.
Knowing oneself allows us to know what we want in life, whether in large projects or on a day-to-day basis. It also allows us to better manage our emotions even in the most difficult situations, which is why it is essential to know who we are, to know the aspects of personality, self-esteem and self-concept.
In this seminar we will take a tour of all this, going through the theoretical aspects and later putting them into practice by carrying out different tests and activities to get to know each other better through practices, with active dynamics, taking a tour of what we understand by personality and its study, we will see and we will carry out projective techniques, such as the Rorschach Inkblot technique, the thematic perception test (TAT), evaluation and personality test, we will learn who we are by taking a tour of personality and self-esteem, the concept we have of ourselves , learn to love ourselves through self-knowledge.
Self-esteem is the ability we have as people to value ourselves. This ability has a lot to do with self-confidence and the general opinion we have of ourselves as a result of doing things well, successfully. Self-esteem is an essential skill for people's well-being.
What do we understand by personality?
It is very interesting to make an etymological excursion of the term personality to discover its ins and outs. Personality can be defined as the internal causes underlying individual behavior and the person's experience.
Dates and times: October 3, 11, 17, 24 and 31, of 18: 00 to 20: 00 hours.
Location: Madrid Campus. Manuel Becerra Square, 14.
THE UNIVERSE AND ITS MYSTERIES: A PRACTICAL APPROACH TO ASTRONOMY. Teachers: Mr. Jacobo Aguirre Araujo and Ms. Maleni Hernán Obispo.
The Universe encompasses everything that surrounds us, and although human beings have come a long way in understanding it, we still don't know much more than we understand.
In this course, full of group activities and practical workshops, we will review the basic principles of Astronomy, we will approach the mysteries of the Universe "getting our hands dirty", and we will discover the instrumentation that is needed to develop this exciting hobby. In addition, we will introduce students to the world of Astrobiology, that is, the study of the origin and evolution of life on this planet and on others.
As this will be an applied seminar, special emphasis will be placed on complementing the more theoretical subject matter with a practical study of the wonders of the sky: students will learn to use binoculars and telescopes, mobile phone applications and computer programs to discover the sky. All this with good humor and always promoting debate.
No prior knowledge of astronomy or science in general is required to follow our course.
Dates and times: October 11, 13, 18, 20 and 25, of 16: 00 to 18: 00 hours
Location: Madrid Campus. Manuel Becerra Square, 14.
ART IN EASTERN EUROPE. Professor: Mr. Jorge Latorre Izquierdo.
With the fall of the Western Roman Empire in the year 475, Constantinople remains the imperial capital par excellence in the first centuries of the Middle Ages, although the recovery of the Western Empire carried out by Charlemagne and his successors will make the Europe of The West an engine of constant renewal of culture. Well, as we will see in the course, there are several medieval renaissances before the Florentine Quatrecento, which was in full swing at the time that Constantinople was taken by the Turkish Empire, on that symbolic date of 1453 that ends the Middle Ages.
Until the 1054th century, there were no important differences between Eastern and Western Europe from an artistic point of view, but after the Schism of XNUMX, the Latin world distanced itself from the Greek or Orthodox world, which remained oblivious to changes in art. Western since the Renaissance. For this reason, one can speak of a peculiarity of art in Eastern Europe, including cinema, which also allows us to understand some current issues such as the conflict in the Balkans and in Ukraine. In this course we are going to deal with these milestones and peculiarities, from different artistic perspectives, emphasizing the moments in which there has been a special inspiration both from the West in the art of Eastern Europe and vice versa.
Dates and times: October 24, 28, 31 and November 4. Monday from 12:00 p.m. to 14:00 p.m. and Friday from 11:00 p.m. to 14:00 p.m.
Location: Madrid Campus. Manuel Becerra Square, 14.
