Carol Bonilla, student of the degree in Audiovisual Communication at URJC: “Since I was little I was attracted by the media, especially radio and television”

The FCCOM Student has decided to create a new project by taking up her old music blog.

Carol decided to study the degree in Audiovisual Communication, since, since she was a child, she had always been passionate about the media, especially radio and television. She, in reality, did not begin her studies at the Rey Juan Carlos University, since she studied her first year at a private university. “They spoke to me very well about the URJC, I investigated about it, and the following year, I requested a file transfer; that they accepted me”, declares the student. Since 2017 and until the end of her degree, she has studied at the Vicálvaro campus.

Q: When did you start to feel interested in the world of communication and audiovisual media?

This question leads me to remember very beautiful moments from the past. Due to the great fondness that my father had for the radio, as a child I got used to listening to it. In addition, at that time, my mother worked on television, so the connection that my parents had with the media aroused great interest in me, and since I was a little girl, I was still about 8-9 years old, I knew that I wanted to dedicate myself to it.

Q: During your years of career you have been working and collaborating in different media, especially in radio stations, what programs have you been able to work on?

I feel fortunate to have been able to combine studies with various collaborations in the media. I started my radio experience in 2017, at a local station in Rivas Vaciamadrid, where I had the opportunity to present my own program together with one of my best friends. Since then I have been going through different stations, some online, where I collaborated in programs commenting on topics about cinema, books, or presenting the radio formula. Another great experience, which I remember with special affection, is my time at the station where I did my curricular internship, Unika FM, where I commented on curious news in two of the programs, in addition to writing news and reports for its website, and covering events.

But not only do I have experience in radio, but I have also been on television, specifically, in the Madrid Directo program on Telemadrid.

Q: How did you get into this world of work? How has your experience been?

It was not easy to get the first experiences. I sent many requests without receiving a response, but with patience and insistence, I finally received news from the first station with which I collaborated. From there, when I already had some contacts and experience, the opportunities arose little by little.

Q: At the beginning of summer you decided to launch a Blog again, what was the reason why you put this project on stand-by? Why did you decide to reopen it?

The reason why I left it on standby was that the subject where I was asked to have this blog, which I explain in the next question, ended, and it was quite abandoned for several years.

I took it up again because it occurred to me that it would still be a good idea to have a space where I could show everything I've done since I started university: collaborations, university projects, news and written reports... Summer seemed like a good time as I didn't have too many obligations, and I could take the opportunity to write a lot.

Q: How did the idea of creating content on a blog come about? Why this communicative format and not another?

This blog arose from a career subject at a private university. It was an exercise in which we had to write an entry from time to time talking about cinema and/or art.

The reason why this format is very simple, they raised it that way in that subject. More than once it has crossed my mind to make a podcast, but I have never seen the ideal time to do it.

Q: What is your blog about? What themes do you address in it?

Yes, it is true that although I have an entry dedicated to art and my experience in the world of work, in this new stage since I took it up again in the summer, I focus more on the cultural field, publishing television, film and music news.

In addition, many of the news that I wrote for the website of the radio station where I did the curricular internship are published, and I also have some interviews published.

Q: To what type of public is it directed?

I don't have a defined audience. I try to write varied news to reach as many people as possible, those people who like to read news in different media.

Q: How often do you post content?

With the publication of news I am not very regular, I write when I think there is relevant news, or when I have an interview closed that may be interesting for readers.

Q: What is your main objective with this blog?

Enjoy writing and creating news, make myself known, and make my readers enjoy and entertain.

Q: What are your expectations for the future? Do you have new projects in mind?

Continue with my training, continue with the blog project, and look for new opportunities.

As a future project I would like to launch that podcast that I have been thinking about for quite some time.

Q: What advice would you give to all those who want to dedicate themselves to the world of communication?

Have a lot of patience. Sometimes opportunities take time to arrive, but if you are constant and have an attitude, it will be much easier to get experiences.

I would also tell them to take advantage of every possible opportunity, but always making themselves respected and valued.
