XV Conference on Design in the Information Society. From artisanal creation to assisted design in the age of AI

Posted by Redaction

Like every year since 2009, the Conference on Design in the Information Society is held on the Fuenlabrada Campus of the URJC. During October 26 and 27, 2023, the university community will meet to discuss the implementation of Artificial Intelligence in creative and communicative fields.

The Design in the Information Society Conference is configured as a reference in the Faculty of Communication Sciences of the Rey Juan Carlos University. The annual conferences have been held since the 2009-2010 academic year, and they bring together students and teachers of various degrees in the field of communication and the arts.

With this new call, the XV Conference on Design in the Information Society, the aim is to address the moment of transformation that occurs with the emergence of artificial intelligence in all aspects of life and, therefore, in the creative environment. To this end, two morning sessions are presented that begin with theoretical conferences that will lead to two purely practical workshops. The underlying theme for the activities, once again, is focused on the Sustainable Development Goals and Social Design. The management of the conference considers that both are a fundamental pillar in the training of future professionals.

Collage and design with Artificial Intelligence

Thus, during the first day, we will immerse ourselves in the captivating world of collage. We will have the presence of Alberto Gayo, an expert in the field who will give us a conference on the use and language of this technique today. Attendees will then have the opportunity to put their creative skills into practice in a workshop taught by Gayo. Each participant will be able to make their own collage, exploring the fusion of analog and digital elements to express their artistic vision.

On the second day, we will delve into the cutting edge of design with artificial intelligence. A renowned specialist will guide us through a conference where we will explore how artificial intelligence has revolutionized the generation of illustrations and images. We will discover the infinite possibilities that this technology offers and its application in different creative fields. Additionally, in the corresponding workshop, attendees will learn how to use artificial intelligence to create unique and surprising images.

Bridge between analog and digital

In this way, we seek to establish a bridge between the analog and the digital, fusing the traditional with the avant-garde. Through the Collage workshop, we will explore the artisanal essence of cutting, combining and manually composing, allowing participants to immerse themselves in the richness of the tangible creative process, while at the same time we will enter the world of artificial intelligence, where we will discover how this revolutionary technology can boost our skills and open new frontiers in design. This connection between analog and digital will give us a holistic perspective on design, enriching our experience and allowing us to embrace the diversity of creative approaches.
