In September 2011, the United Nations Human Rights Council approved resolution 18/7, which appointed a Special Rapporteur on the promotion of truth, justice, reparation and guarantees of non-repetition, concepts that are They are also present in the Democratic Memory Law of 2022.
The entry into force of this Law, as already occurred with the Historical Memory Law of 2007, has caused a strong polarization in Spanish society, transferred in some cases to the media themselves, among which there is unequal treatment of the victims and perpetrators of Francoism. This event, coordinated by professors María Eugenia Lozano and Yolanda Ortiz de Guinea, from the Department of Journalism and Corporate Communication of the Faculty of Communication Sciences, aims to focus on how the media address information regarding this type of information, with the help of expert journalists in Democratic Memory.
That is why next Wednesday, November 15th, in the Vicalvaro Campus, the Day is celebrated “Victims and perpetrators of Francoism in the media”, within the UNESCO Chair of Research in Communication URJC.
