The Faculty of Communication Sciences and the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (UCC+i) celebrate this year at the Rey Juan Carlos University (URJC) the tenth edition of the 'European Night of Researchers in Madrid'. This event will take place on the Fuenlabrada campus on Friday, September 27, under the motto “Communication on stage”. This edition also coincides with the launch of the contest “condensed science”, promoted by the Foundation for Knowledge madri+d, and the celebration of the European Week of Sport.

During this day, the researchers will show the public different lines of research on science in the media and media on science. Scientists will present some studies and their fields of application, which will range from film animation, journalism, cyber violence and digital identity. Attendees will be able to participate in various workshops and recreational activities related to these subjects and interact closely with researchers. To attend it will be necessary to online registration from today.

In addition, you can visit exhibitions of projects by researchers Marie Sklodowska-Curie fellows and EU-funded programs in a prominent place on campus: the European corner.

The tenth European Night of Researchers in Madrid will open its doors at 10:00 a.m. and will end at 21:00 p.m. with a screening of the winning video of the “URJC European Night of Researchers 2019” contest. This contest will be held prior to the event and will be aimed at students of the Faculty of Communication Sciences. The ruling will be made public on September 20.

Sport and science

The Madrid town of Fuenlabrada, home to one of the five URJC campuses, has been designated 'European City of Sport 2019' by the Association of European Capitals and Cities of Sport (ACES Europe). Likewise, on the occasion of the celebration of the European Week of Sport, in this edition of the European Night of Researchers in Madrid various activities will be carried out to show how the body composition of athletes is evaluated and how new technologies are applied in the development and control of training and competitions. In these workshops, participants will have the opportunity to learn about some practical applications for body composition analysis and sports performance improvements for injury prevention.

Commitment to scientific dissemination

The URJC is widely linked to scientific dissemination to increase, promote and encourage the approach of science, technology and innovation to citizens. The UCC+i, dependent on the Vice President for Research, organizes and coordinates activities such as the European Night of Researchers in Madrid with the aim of bringing the figure of the scientist closer to society and making their work known. Scientific dissemination activities also have the collaboration of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) and the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.

The tenth edition of this event will be held on September 27 and 28 simultaneously in eight locations in Madrid: Alcalá de Henares, Boadilla del Monte, Fuenlabrada, Pozuelo de Alarcón, Leganés, Madrid, Móstoles and Villaviciosa de Odón. It is a scientific dissemination project framed in the Horizon 2020 program, under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions, and which has been held in more than 300 European cities since 2005.
