The Fuenlabrada Campus celebrates its most scientific night

The URJC has participated in the tenth edition of the European Night of Researchers in Madrid, approaching the research carried out in the field of Communication Sciences.

Last Friday, September 27, the Fuenlabrada Campus was the scene of a new edition of this event, which aims to awaken scientific vocations among the youngest and publicize the research work carried out in all scientific disciplines. . This year, it has been dedicated to Communication Sciences and has had activities dedicated to Journalism, Advertising or Audiovisual Communication.

Researchers from the Faculty of Communication Sciences have offered an extensive program of practical workshops and information sessions aimed at children as well as adolescents and adults.

The 3rd and 4th ESO participants have played the 'Web of Influences', an educational resource designed to discover the network of interests behind journalism and its correlation with the messages of the media. Through quiz-type games of questions and answers, they have also been warned of the dangers of the use of their personal data and digital identity on social networks.

For their part, primary school students have participated in a workshop dedicated to the videos that most of them consume on YouTube. In this activity they have been accompanied by their parents to let them know what obligations and rights they have as legal guardians. Children from 6 to 12 years old have also recreated cinematographic animation scenes with LEGO pieces, making a short film of about 10 seconds, moving the articulated dolls little by little and photographing them in each position.

For the general public, activities related to the procedures carried out in the Public Administration or with the new technologies that are applied in the media have been offered. On the one hand, it has been shown how to interpret and improve many of the texts so that they can be understood. On the other hand, attendees have been able to experience different pieces of immersive journalism thanks to the use of 360º glasses.

In addition, this tenth edition of the Researchers' Night has coincided with the celebration of the European Week of Sport, which is why activities have been carried out to show how the body composition of athletes is evaluated and how new technologies are applied in the development and control of training and competitions.

Institutional support and scientific dissemination at the URJC

During the celebration of the event, the rector of the URJC Javier Ramos has presided over the opening ceremony accompanied by the first deputy mayor of the Fuenlabrada City Council Isidoro Ortega. The Vice President for Research of the URJC Visitación López-Miranda and the Dean of the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Miguel Baños, also participated in the table.

The URJC promotes scientific dissemination activities, such as the European Night of Researchers, through the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (UCC+i), dependent on the Vice President for Research. These activities also have the collaboration of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) and the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.

In the Community of Madrid, this event is promoted by the Ministry of Science, Universities and Innovation and coordinated by the Foundation for Knowledge madri+d.
