The nineteenth edition of the Madrid Science and Innovation Week It will be held from November 4 to 17 under the slogan “For an inclusive science”. This year the madri+d Knowledge Foundation, promoter of the event, intends to support public awareness of the United Nations Millennium Sustainable Development Goals, in order to eradicate poverty, protect the planet and ensure gender equality as part of a new sustainable development agenda. In addition, during this edition the International Year of the Periodic System of Chemical Elements and the 50th anniversary of the arrival of man on the Moon are commemorated.

The URJC also joins these milestones, organizing various activities, such as the 'birthday party' of the Periodic Table, a escape room in which the participants will have to solve enigmas related to the Periodic System or a workshop in which a 'periodic table' will be drawn up with elements of Psychology.

The Moon is also the protagonist in this edition. Attendees will be able to learn how the technology that made the arrival of man to this star possible is now used to observe the Earth. In addition, a workshop will be held in which an Earth-Moon communications radio link will be simulated with antennas powered by renewable energy. The lunar program will be completed by different film sessions to show and discuss the historical and scientific approaches to space exploration, as well as a talk on the materials and technologies of the spacesuits for the mission to the Moon, which will include a guided tour of the Royal Observatory of Madrid.

A diverse catalog for the largest scientific outreach event

As in previous years, the URJC joins this appointment with science to value the work carried out by its scientific community and bring attendees closer to what the daily work of a scientist is like in their laboratory or work space.

For two weeks, a total of 128 free activities will be offered at the five university campuses and at the Madrid-Quintana headquarters, from open days and educational itineraries to workshops, conference cycles and exhibitions.

The scientific and social interest of the program will cover various areas of knowledge within the branches of Health Sciences, Experimental Sciences, Social and Legal Sciences, Humanities and Art, Engineering or Architecture.

The Madrid Science and Innovation Week is promoted at the URJC by the Office of the Vice President for Research, through the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (UCC+i), and it is the largest scientific outreach event held during the year. In addition, it has the collaboration of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) and the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities. In this new edition, the different schools and faculties of the URJC offer the possibility of participating to audiences of all kinds, from Primary, Secondary and Baccalaureate students, to university or general public. “Our university does not want to be oblivious to the dissemination of its scientific activity, and that is why we offer a wide variety of activities that show the good work of researchers and that aim to cover a wide spectrum of attendees to said activities”, exposes María Jesús Alonso, scientific manager of the UCC+i.

Registrations can be made from today, October 21, through a online form, where participants can purchase both individual and group tickets.
