We are scientists live! is an interactive show that takes advantage of the public's curiosity to create an à la carte outreach activity. The main objective is to offer models of experts in science and technology and make clear the gender gap that still exists in the area of research.

This Saturday, the CaixaForum Madrid has been the setting chosen to celebrate this activity. Mayte Ballestar de las Heras, an expert in Big Data and a doctoral student at the URJC, has been one of the five invited researchers. In her intervention, she explained the work that she is carrying out in her thesis, focused on the analysis of consumer behavior in ecommerce through the use of Big Data methods. The URJC doctoral student has previously participated in We're scientists, get us out of here!, being selected from nearly 200 candidates.

They have completed the poster Belén González-Gaya, researcher at the Institute for Advanced Studies of Madrid-Water; Marta Cobo, doctoral student at the National Center for Biotechnology; Patricia Rodríguez Salamanca, who designs new drugs at Synthelia Organics SL; and the astronomer and disseminator Sara Gil Casanova.

The attendees have also been protagonists

Quick introductions and a game of true or false have encouraged the audience to ask questions to get to know the five researchers better. The attendees have been able to interact with the experts and show their interest in their work, their day-to-day life or the challenges they face. The participants have also been able to decide which presentation they liked the most and vote for their favorite scientist. The winner was environmentalist Belén González-Gaya. In addition, a person from the public has won the prize for the best question.

This activity has been organized by Kialo Comunicación y Divulgación Innovadora and has the collaboration of EduCaixa and Obra Social “la Caixa”.
