Although the degree in Cybersecurity Engineering at URJC has just started, it has already managed to get one of its students selected by the National Institute of Cybersecurity (INCIBE) to participate in the most important tournament on the continent.

This is Javier Sánchez, passionate about computers from a very young age, who at high school began to be interested in cybersecurity. For Javier, participating in this event is "a great opportunity from a personal and work point of view because being in events like this is important for the curriculum and to meet people in the sector."

Javier, excited about this tournament, is preparing this tournament "solving challenges, which is the best way to learn to use new tools and to see things from different points of view", he pointed out.

The URJC student has indicated that the goal of the team is "great teamwork to defend the title to the death and bring it back to Spain." Our country won in the last two editions.

On the other hand, Javier has indicated that the preparation and participation in the tournament is "taking a long time, having to miss some classes" and he is negotiating with the University to obtain the academic exemption and has added that he is "delighted to be able to defend the name of the University and the Cybersecurity degree in London”.

The Eurocup of cybersecurity

The 'European Cybersecurity Challenge' is a competition in which 15 teams from the continent participate, up to a total of 15. The teams must pass tests such as 'catch the flag' or 'take the hill' based on computer security challenges. As explained by Marta Beltrán, coordinator of the degree.

This event is organized by ENISA (European Union Information and Network Agency) and will be held in London on October 15, 16 and 17.

highly motivated students

For Marta Beltrán, “the fact that students from the grade, which has just started, participate in this contest fills us with pride. Javier has been a very active student who has already taken our MOOC and participated in the conferences that we have been organizing”.

Beltrán added that this is great news for the Degree, which also "completed a total of 60 places offered (55 boys and 5 girls) already in June." This teacher has highlighted that the students "are very motivated and constantly ask us for help to participate in competitions, they offer to give talks at conferences, etc."

These students will be able to display all their talent and motivation in the new Cybersecurity classroom that will start operating next week.
