Borja Alday, a recent graduate of Comprehensive Design and Image Management, found out about the Amazon Campus Challenge thanks to a friend who suggested joining the challenge and quickly found the motivation: he wanted to know if they were capable of doing it. Objective more than fulfilled since last Thursday they obtained the fourth prize in the first edition held in Spain.

The main objective of this contest is to help students learn about the activity carried out by an online seller. To do this, for three months the participating teams, made up of between two and five university students, have to advise a company they choose to sell their products online and increase their profits.

Due to the confinement, the contest suffered a break in March and instead of ending in May, it ended on August 31. "The situation affected us a lot because we had many logistics problems due to the break in Europe, but at the same time it helped us to train and do things better," says the winner.

The business chosen by Borja and his colleagues, who make up the IcbA team, was Tiendamotomax, a specialized motorcycle store based in Gijón. "The owner of Tiendamotomax was a client of mine and he had just created his ecommerce and needed to optimize it for SEO," Borja tells us when asked why he chose this SME.

In the first edition of the contest, 300 teams from different universities in Spain entered, of which only five reached the grand final in which they had to defend their projects.

This final consisted of presenting the business plan through a video, showing the results generated in sales, account management, the complete performance of the proposed idea and answering the jury's questions for ten minutes.

The winners of the contest were the EasyVal group from the Polytechnic University of Valencia and they obtained a financial reward of €10.000. The team made up of students from Madrid won a prize of €3.000 thanks to their project.

In addition to the economic prize, the IcbA team has learned a lot, from what the Amazon ecosystem is like to what the day-to-day life of an SME is like, highlighting above all that if you have a good team you can get everything done.

All profits generated by the logistics giant during the competition will be donated to the NGO Redes Cooperativa, which is responsible for helping minors and families in situations of social vulnerability.

The registration period for the second edition of the Amazon Campus Challenge ends on December 20 and all students enrolled in any Spanish university can participate.
