Raul Garcia Hemonnet

As stated in a communication from the Association, "her professional curriculum and the merits accumulated by this Telecommunications Engineer, as well as her technical, social and informative career, have caused the jury to decline for her after considering that all the candidates presented met the Sufficient conditions for the 'IT Pioneer Awards' 2021”.

For this 'teleco' and professor at the URJC, it is the recognition “of a personality with drive and determination. I am very grateful to my classmates for this. Something that is given by peers is very satisfying. I also want to highlight the high level of the other 7 finalist women”.

For this engineer, “the pioneer, by definition, is a person with initiative and drive who has a highly developed capacity for innovation and entrepreneurship. Today he is essential with the digital transformation of society, which requires constant adaptation”.

Inmaculada Sánchez Ramos is an associate professor at the Rey Juan Carlos University in the area of Computer Languages and Systems. This Telecommunications Engineer graduated from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, she is an optician-optometrist from the Complutense University and a doctor in Legal and Social Sciences from the Rey Juan Carlos University. She is a graduate of the 'Women Joining Boards' program by the 'Woman Forward' Foundation and has completed various General Management and Management Development programs at IESE Business School. She is a member of the Board of Directors of Madrid Digital and of the Advisory Council of the Foundation. She participates in the area of Social Innovation. In addition, she was president of the Commission for the Information Society, R + d + i, Electronic Administration and Efficiency of the Federation of Municipalities of Madrid.

Sánchez Ramos, a woman and engineer, points out that it is important that there are women in the STEM disciplines (acronym in English for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) "because the vast majority of jobs in the present and in the future are going to be in these fields” and, regarding the even lower presence of women in technical careers, she points out that “there is less female attendance in technical careers, they are still a minority. It is said that they do not attract, there is talk of social stereotypes, I do not agree. I think that people see engineering as something very cold, something nineteenth-century, pure calculation. But they have a lot of social applications and it's a deeply creative field, so it should appeal to women, but it's presented as a mechanistic discipline."

This second edition of IT Pioneers Award, which seeks to recognize the trajectory and professional career as a “pioneer” of a woman Telecommunications Engineer, would not have been possible without the sponsors: CELLNEX, Fundación Orange, HISPASAT, Telefónica, Vantage Towers, Sabadell Professional, Isdefe and Teldat”, they point out. from the COIT.
