On September 22, the Spanish Society for Criminological Research, within the framework of the international conference of the 'European Society of Criminology', awarded the URJC professor Fernando Reinares the National Prize for Criminology

The scientific committee of the Spanish Society for Criminological Research has recognized the work and work of Professor Fernando Reinares, as he is a national and international reference in the field of terrorism studies.

Reinares has contributed numerous publications in different languages. His first empirical research deals with the phenomenon of violent radicalization in Spain, reflected in his book “Patriotas de la muerte. Who has militated in ETA and why? Another of his studies deals with the 2004 attacks in Madrid, reflected in his most recent book entitled “11-M. Al Qaeda's Revenge (2021).” 

“The National Criminology Award makes me feel grateful, honored and excited. I trust that a distinction like this will serve to add value and projection to the Criminology studies offered by the URJC, and that it can serve as a stimulus to all the Criminology students at the URJC who want to acquire good knowledge on issues of radicalization and terrorism” explains Reinares. 

In May of this same year, Professor Reinares also received the Prize for Memory and Peace, awarded by the 11-M Association Affected by Terrorism for his research work on the attacks of March 11, 2004; work that was reflected in his book “11-M. Al Qaeda's Revenge." This work also obtained, last April, the Ateneo Riojano del Libro Award 2022 in the Essay category.

Reinares Award

The National Criminology Prize is awarded biannually to recognize the work carried out by scientists and researchers who have notably stood out in the various fields of Criminology. With this award, the national and international prestige is valued, as well as the academic and professional influence of the work of the winners.
