The European ElasTest consortium meets at the URJC

The Móstoles Campus has hosted this meeting between the different partners. The objective of the project, led by the URJC Code group, is to increase the quality of reducing the complexity of testing large distributed systems in the cloud.

El European project H2020 ElasTest A new meeting has been held, when the halfway point of the project (2017-2019) is completed, to present the objectives that are proposed in the short term. In addition, this meeting has served to once again share all the components that are part of the ElasTest platform. "These demonstrations have made it possible to assess the level of maturity of the different components and plan the tasks for the next four months, especially to prepare the first review of the project by the European Commission that will take place on July 18 in Brussels", points out Francisco Gortázar, a researcher with the URJC Code group and project coordinator.

During the meeting, some technical issues were also discussed, such as the enormous memory requirements that ElasTest needs, some possible strategies to reduce them or the security management between all the services of the platform. The Code group has also addressed some issues related to the line of research it leads on test orchestration. This is a novel concept that, as explained by the project coordinator, "will increase the reuse of tests, which in large projects with thousands of test cases can lead to considerable savings in defining and developing these cases."

Finally, the consortium has agreed on the date of the next meeting, which will take place in Barcelona on September 27 and 28. The European project ElasTest includes as academic members the IMDEA Software Institute, Technische University Berlin, Center Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, Zürich University of Applied Sciences and Fraunhofer FOKUS. In addition, it has the participation of different industry institutions, such as Atos Spain, IBM, NAEVATEC and RELATIONAL SA

New beta version and participation in international events

2018 brings important milestones for the project and its members. First of all, a new beta version will be released soon, which includes various improvements and greater stability of the platform in general.

Secondly, in July the first review of the project will take place, where three external experts appointed by the European Commission will evaluate the scope achieved to date.

Finally, the consortium will participate in two outstanding events. From May 27 to June 3 will be in the International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE), the largest international conference on Software Engineering, where the new beta version will be presented. In June, Francisco Gortázar will present the latest advances in the project at the International Software Tester Qualification Board (ISQTB), which attracts quality assurance professionals from all over Italy. "We believe that this will be an important meeting point between the ElasTest research project and the industry because it will allow the project to be aligned with the needs of professionals in the next year and a half", highlights the URJC researcher.
