Developing intelligent search techniques for optimization problems, for example in the field of energy efficiency, is one of the main objectives set by Miguel Ángel Rodríguez. To do this, he will use Artificial Intelligence and operational research tools that allow him to find the best possible solution (optimal solution) to a specific problem.
Since joining the team last April, Miguel Ángel Rodríguez has been working on the development of an intelligent search technique to reduce bandwidth (bandwidth) of a two-dimensional matrix, a well-studied problem in the fields of integrated circuit design and the resolution of systems of linear equations. “A matrix is a set of numbers ordered by rows and columns (binary system). The problem consists of finding an organization of the components of the matrix that, while maintaining their binary relationships, is capable of reducing the maximum difference between the adjacent components”, explains Miguel Ángel Rodríguez.
On the other hand, the researchers will try to solve various problems in the fields of energy efficiency and Machine Learning (Machine Learning). "In the area of energy efficiency, research will focus on the development of intelligent methods to optimize energy consumption," says Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, "while in the area of machine learning, the objective will be to develop intelligent methods capable of automatically selecting the set of suitable parameters and attributes applicable to a specific problem”.
Young talent at the service of the URJC
The hiring aid from the Community of Madrid has allowed Abraham Duarte's group to have the availability of an experienced researcher to be integrated into any of the group's work tasks. "The arrival of this new collaborator provides considerable help that will allow us to intensify the research work of our group", emphasizes Abraham Duarte.

Miguel Ángel Rodríguez finished his studies in Computer Engineering at the University of Murcia in 2009. He later completed a Master's Degree in New Computer Technologies at the same university and obtained a collaboration scholarship for a research project where he specialized in information technology. the Semantic Web, Natural Language Processing and Knowledge Representation.
After this scholarship, he began to work as a licensed researcher under another research project where he developed the fundamental tools and technologies that are included in his doctoral thesis. During this period, he wrote a project proposal for the “Esteban Romero” Private Cultural Foundation, which provided him with funding to carry out a stay at the Swinburne University (Australia), where he developed various technologies in the field of Opinion Mining. After completing his doctorate, he obtained a postdoctoral fellowship at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (Saudi Arabia), where he has been working intensively in the field of Bioinformatics.
