The URJC Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (UCC+i) has organized a cycle of visits to educational centers in the Community of Madrid by researchers from our university, in which more than 1300 students of various levels have participated academics. Some of these educational centers repeat the experience they already had in previous editions of this initiative.

In these informative talks, the URJC researchers have explained their professional experience in various scientific fields. This aspect is of great interest in the celebration of February 11, to encourage new generations to access scientific branches. Professors Belén Arredondo Conchillo and Susana Borromeo López have emphasized in their talk "the need for this initiative and showing examples of women scientists and engineers throughout history".

In the activities carried out from February 11 to 15, on the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, which is taking root in the URJC, has covered topics such as nanotechnology, archeology, the effects of climate change, marine research and a wide variety of topics in which the presence of women in science is appreciated, with a broad vocation and dedication. in various professional fields. Anubis Brita Pérez has commented that this initiative makes "know the different fields of work of Chemical Engineering and the reasons why it is an activity where women have great opportunities for professional development"

When analyzing the presence of women with university studies in scientific subjects, it can be seen how they have not evolved equitably in the various scientific branches, due to stereotypes and the invisibility of the researchers' achievements. That is why the commemoration of this day is of great importance.

Women and science, a creeping stereotype

With this initiative on February 11 that promotes gender equality in science and the full and equal participation of women and girls, the URJC joins the attempt to close the inequality gap, encompassing a week of informative talks and experiences of the scientific ones The objective is to encourage access to future generations and promote scientific vocations, through direct contact and lived experiences of the URJC scientists.

Although in recent years the enrollment of women in various scientific branches has decreased, it is important to highlight the interest and curiosity of girls for science at all academic levels.

During this week, all the female scientists have shown their great interest and dedication in making all girls and adolescents aware of the importance and dedication to science, the wide range of work that exists and the reward of becoming a great scientist, inviting young women to explore the scientific world.
