The URJC rewards the brightest student in Chemistry

This recognition has been given to the ten second year Baccalaureate students who have obtained the best results in the URJC Chemistry, Environment and Intelligent Energy Contest. The winner of this nineteenth edition has been Selene Cuella Ballesteros, a student from the Centro Escolar Amanecer. She was followed by two other students from the same center with a second and third place.

In this nineteenth edition, 127 students from a total of 42 educational centers in the Community of Madrid have competed for excellence in a contest to which only students with the best records could apply after passing the EvAU 2021 test.

Organized by the Chemical and Environmental Engineering Group of the URJC, this contest consisted of a test with a total of 45 multiple choice questions in which the students had to demonstrate their knowledge of issues specifically related to energy, industrial, environmental and Chemistry social. For an hour and a half, the students had to test all their knowledge, using only a calculator.

The prize-giving ceremony for the XIX Chemistry, Environment and Intelligent Energy Contest took place at the Móstoles Campus and different prizes were awarded to the ten best results, sponsored by the Campus of International Excellence “Intelligent Energy” and the company Bruker , who have delivered the first prize. In addition, the Unit for Scientific Culture and Innovation (UCC+i) of the URJC and the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), dependent on the Ministry of Science and Innovation, have collaborated with this contest by providing a small gift , within the aid program for the promotion of scientific, technological and innovation culture.

In this new edition, the students of the Amanecer school in Madrid have obtained six of the ten awards. Being three students from this same center who have obtained the first three positions with Selene Cuella Ballesteros in the lead, with a score of 38,75 out of 45. The podium is completed by Alejandra Gutiérrez González and Gonzalo Cid Pardo with 36 and 35,5 over 45 respectively.

The other centers that have managed to sneak into the ten winners have been the IES Cervantes in Madrid with fourth place, the Retamar School in Pozuelo de Alarcón with sixth place, the IES San Mateo in Madrid with eighth position and the Tajamar School in Madrid with a ninth place.
