The URJC pays tribute to its scientific community in the I Edition "Science is you"

The first edition of "Science is you", an initiative of the Vice President for Research and the UCC+I, has aimed to recognize the importance of scientific dissemination. In the act, the III Prizes for Scientific Dissemination have been delivered and the recognition of the participants in the Science Week and the European Night of Researchers has been made evident.

The work of the URJC scientific community in disseminating science has received recognition in the first edition of "Science is you". The professors who have organized activities in the XXI Week of Science and Innovation and in the twelfth European Night of Researchers have been invited to this ceremony.

In this event, his effort and dedication to promoting interest and knowledge of society on scientific issues, the dissemination of the research carried out at the URJC and the development of scientific dissemination activities were highlighted, contributing to science is not only available to a few.

During the event, Professor Carmen García Galera, academic director of the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit, expressed a few words of thanks to all the professors who have participated in the scientific dissemination activities. “Thank you because you have understood that research implies dissemination, and with this you contribute to society understanding the role that science has in our lives”.

The ceremony was presided over by the rector Javier Ramos and was attended by César López García, head of the Science Outreach and Participation Unit of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), Susana Pérez Holgueras, from the Communications area and Scientific Culture of the Foundation for knowledge madri+d, and Visitación López-Miranda González, Vice-Rector for Research.

III Scientific Dissemination Awards

The participants in the third edition of the URJC Scientific Dissemination Awards have received their participation diplomas and the rector has awarded the prizes to the three winners of this edition. Professor Ángela García Gil has received the first prize for her activity “Escape Room: El Sueño de Zenawa”. A more than deserved award for an activity dedicated to raising awareness about life in developing countries, as well as promoting knowledge of the Sustainable Development Goals in terms of health, education, gender equality and water. The activity consisted of a escape room about the life of Zenawa, an Ethiopian girl who dreams of being a doctor, but who doesn't even have a running water supply. Zenawa has to face different problems, such as going to collect water or being a woman in a society where gender roles are so entrenched, even to be able to go to school.

The second prize has been received by Professor Francisco Gómez Esquer for his activity “Passion for Anatomy”, a social network profile created for the dissemination of scientific content on topics related to research in the field of anatomy and also covering other topics of information on Health Sciences. The contents include videos, articles, images, news and small evaluation tests carried out by the URJC professor.

Lastly, the third prize went to Professor Delia Fernández Manzanero for her documentary “Philosophy in Prison”. The teacher has emphasized the importance of bringing knowledge to disadvantaged environments such as prisons. Likewise, during the activity, both teachers and students of the URJC discussed concepts such as justice, death or loneliness with inmates from Madrid.
