A total of 60 students from 24 institutes and colleges in the Community of Madrid and the province of Toledo have participated in this contest, organized by the Chemical and Environmental Engineering Group (GIQA) of the URJC. This test has been aimed at second-year high school students from the 2021-2022 academic year after passing their EvAU exams.

The students with the brightest records have faced 45 multiple choice questions on general questions about the contents included in the official curriculum of the Community of Madrid for the subject of Chemistry in the second year of high school. Some of these issues have referred specifically to energy, industrial, environmental and social aspects related to Chemistry. For an hour and a half, the students have had to test all their knowledge, using only a calculator. “The objective of the contest is to bring chemistry and chemical technologies closer to future university students in a playful way, so that they see their relationship with sustainable development, the environment, energy and society in general. We intend to contribute to the promotion of scientific and technological vocations, which are so necessary in today's society”, highlights Fernando Bautista, coordinator of the contest and member of the GIQA.

The ten best results will be recognized with different prizes, sponsored by the Bruker company. In addition, this event is part of the program of the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (UCC+I) of the Office of the Vice President for Research within the framework of aid for the promotion of the scientific, technological and innovation culture of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT)-Ministry of Science and Innovation.

In this edition of the contest, 12 teachers from the Department of Chemical and Environmental Technology and the Department of Chemical, Energy and Mechanical Technology of the URJC have collaborated.

The award ceremony will take place on July 1, 2022.
