Déjalo Bot provides a treatment based on scientific evidence with the help of Artificial Intelligence and communicates with the patient through a standard messaging application from their mobile, tablet or computer. It is, therefore, a conversational bot aimed at people who want to start a treatment to stop smoking. The first clinical trials have been shown to be effective in helping patients.

These good results are what have led this project to win the Health Start Madri+d 2022 award. Its manager Eduardo Olano, professor in the Area of Preventive Medicine and Public Health, has collected this award and affirms that "for us it has been a great honor to receive this award, which marks a new milestone in the development of our project. That Déjalo Bot was chosen among the many projects that were presented seemed like a dream to us and a confirmation that our work was on the right track, but the fact that it has been awarded among the best in the program fills us with pride”.

For the Déjalo Bot project, the economic amount of the prize will mean a small push for the constitution of a company, together with the Community of Madrid, through the Foundation for Biosanitary Research and Innovation in Primary Care (FIIBAP). "Specifically, we will use it for the expenses derived from the partners' agreement and the formation of the company, the CE Marking and the deepening of the market study", points out Eduardo Olano. “Our goal is that every smoker in Spain has access to a high-quality scientific treatment to stop smoking at a reasonable price. Today, this is not the case and most smokers quit smoking (more than 80%) without professional help or with therapies without scientific evidence or with evidence of their uselessness ”, he adds.

A team made up of three family doctors and two computer engineers, one of them an expert in Artificial Intelligence and the other in programming, has participated in this project. The doctors have a profile of experts in smoking, in research methodology and in information and communication technologies applied to medicine, in addition to teaching and research.

The research project has been possible thanks to a FIS grant from the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII) and the results are available at open access (NCT03445507).
