The URJC will host a “marathon” to make scientists visible on Wikipedia

On the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the Madrid-Quintana headquarters will be the setting for the first “Editatona”, a session where those who participate will be able to create, improve or translate articles by different women in science.

The Rey Juan Carlos University (URJC), Wikimedia Spain and the Madrid+D Knowledge Foundation have organized a day dedicated to 'Making visible and empowering women in science', which will be held within the framework of the commemorative activities of the Day. International Convention on Women and Girls in Science, declared on February 11 by the United Nations General Assembly.

This event will take place on February 9 at the Madrid-Quintana headquarters of the URJC and will begin with an inaugural conference, where there will be a reflection and analysis about the current level of participation of women in science. The rector of the URJC Javier Ramos will preside over this event, together with Pilar Trinidad, subdelegate of the Government in Madrid, and Emilio Viciana Duro, Minister of Education, Science and Universities of the Community of Madrid. Representatives from the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) and the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) will also be part of the table, along with Florencia Claes, president of Wikimedia Spain and professor at the URJC, and Carmen García Galera, director of the Unit of Scientific Culture and Innovation.

Next, the 'Editatona' will begin, which will consist of an editing session on Wikipedia, where those who participate will be able to create, improve or translate articles by different women in science. For this second part, there will be in-person and online advice from the Wikimedia Spain and Wikipedia Clubs training team. Registration to participate in the Editatona is open and can be registered through a online form.

This event also has the collaboration of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) – Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.
