Cecilia Rodrigo pays tribute to her father at the opening of the XVIII Summer Courses of the Rey Juan Carlos University

The Royal Theater of Aranjuez has hosted the event opened by the mayor of Aranjuez, Cristina Moreno, and the rector of the URJC, Javier Ramos 

The Royal Theater of Aranjuez has dressed up to host the opening ceremony of the XVIII Summer Courses of the Rey Juan Carlos University. The mayor of Aranjuez, Cristina Moreno, and the rector of the University, Javier Ramos, have opened the act that has had an exceptional guest, Cecilia Rodrigo, the daughter of the Valencian composer and teacher Joaquín Rodrigo.

Cecilia Rodrigo has offered, to the nearly one hundred people attending, an extensive and detailed gloss on the life and work of her father. Adapting her speech to the audience she was addressing, the university community, she wanted to recall Joaquín Rodrigo's connection with the university. In this way, she has highlighted that the artist was distinguished Doctor Honoris Causa by 6 universities, in addition to becoming the first professor of music at a contemporary Spanish university.

Rodrigo's daughter has also referred to the different pieces that the composer wrote, with special emphasis on the Aranjuez Concert. Surely the most universal work of the master Rodrigo, which he composed in 1939 in Paris and premiered in 1940 at the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona. The success of the piece turned Joaquín Rodrigo into one of the main composers of the Spanish postwar period. Precisely to honor his figure and to open the summer courses, the Rey Juan Carlos University orchestra has performed the renowned work of the master.

The rector of the Rey Juan Carlos University, Javier Ramos, explained that the objective of the courses is to offer additional knowledge to students by putting them in contact with the main agents of today. On her side, the mayor of Aranjuez, Cristina Moreno, highlighted the welcoming vocation of the city and its link with the teacher Rodrigo.
