Alfonso Guerra, Carlos Solchaga and Marcelino Oreja, at the Parliamentary Monarchy Seminar

After having registered an average attendance of 100 students per session in the last edition, the seminar reanalyzes the relationship between Constitution, democracy and Parliamentary Monarchy. In this edition, in addition to figures from law and politics, intellectuals from literature and philosophy will participate.

On February 7, the third edition of the Permanent Seminar of the Parliamentary Monarchy Chair of the King Juan Carlos University will begin on the Madrid campus. For Isabel Enciso, secretary of the chair, in this edition the seminar wants to consolidate itself "as an intellectual benchmark for reflection on this issue."

As in previous editions, the Permanent Seminar will receive exceptional figures from the recent history of our country. On this occasion, among others, Alfonso Guerra, Vice President of the Government with Felipe González; Carlos Solchaga, former Minister of Finance and Industry and Marcelino Oreja, constituent senator and Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Government of Adolfo Suárez.

This year, in addition, it has been decided to invite renowned figures beyond law and politics. "We expand with intellectuals from literature and philosophy, who give us a different perspective on the subject," says Isabel Enciso. In this sense, personalities such as: Amelia Valcárcel, Minister of State and Professor of Philosophy and Victoria Camps, Professor of Ethics, among others, will pass through the seminar rooms.

Greater effort in networks to encourage participation

In addition, Isabel Enciso points out, "in this edition we want to achieve greater interaction with the students to encourage greater and more active participation." To achieve it, they plan to make a greater effort on social networks.

All with the aim, Enciso explains, of "transcending the academic sphere and establishing a space for reflection with arguments and plurality that serves society."

The Permanent Seminar on Parliamentary Monarchy will take place in the assembly hall of the Madrid campus. It will be taught in two parts: The first from February 7 to April 25 and the second from September 12 to November 21.
