URJC students organize the Model United Nations for the seventh consecutive year 'URJCmun'. For 4 days, more than a thousand young people will replicate the work and functioning model of the UN and will deal with the most varied international issues on the Móstoles campus.

Issues such as LGTBIQ rights, environmental challenges in a globalized world, the fight against hunger or women's leadership in the international sphere, will focus the debates of this simulation of the work and operation of the United Nations committees.

Álvaro Rodríguez Poblete, a graduate of the double degree in Economics and International Relations and one of those responsible for the organization of 'URJCmun', points out, a few hours before the start of this new edition that "we are very nervous and working very hard to set the bar very high". The organization of 'URJCmun' expects more than 1000 people to participate, including delegates, organization, press service, logistics, etc.

The core of 'URJCmün' are the subcommittees (a replica of those that actually exist in the United Nations) and the agencies. In these forums, the students who participate as delegates represent different countries, "you have to study carefully what the international interests and positions of each country are to try to represent them well and be as faithful to reality as possible," says the young man. This makes students defend arguments in fields such as international security, migration or environmental issues that may have nothing to do with their personal opinions.

The topics to be discussed are among theURJCMun19Inside important on the international agenda, although this year, explains Rodríguez Poblete, “we have organized many committees on international issues related to the environment, engineering and technology, to attract students from Móstoles.

discussion and fun

In addition to the intense days of debate, the 'URJCmun' organization has designed several events "so that the experience is complete", according to Rodríguez Poblete, "on Wednesday we organize a meal in which each delegate brings food from the country they represent, On Thursday we celebrate a theme party based on Netflix series and movies and on Friday we close the week with the big final party, which will last all night.

The objective of this macro-event is to show URJC students that the University “is much more than going to class. 'URJCmun' is a great opportunity to find out about all the initiatives carried out at the University", indicates Rodríguez Poblete, who adds that "the 'mun' week is so intense that people who have participated in other editions even talk of 'post-Mun' depression when returning to normal the following Monday.

A very special edition

“URJCmun 2019 is the first plate of an incredible year in which the University, which has devoted itself to the organization, is the main partner of the 'Harvard World MUN' celebration. We want to set the bar very high to demonstrate what is done at the University and what the 'World MUN' in March can be”, says Rodríguez Poblete excitedly.
