Bringing the University programming to the 'school'

The Second Edition of the Project 'Solidarity Service-Learning Experience as a Methodology for Transferring Learning from the University to Early Childhood and Primary Education Centers' concludes.

The project has been directed by professors Marta Gómez, Raquel Hijón, Diana Pérez and Liliana Patricia Santacruz Valencia. Since the 2017-18 academic year, methodologies are taught to bring programming to the primary education and early childhood education classroom in the degrees of Early Childhood and Primary Education in all its modalities, within the subject 'ICT in Education'.

The project contemplates the application of different teaching methods. The application of the MECOPROG methodologies in primary and MECUE has been a complete success. In the case of early childhood education, the idea of ​​Linda Liukas (http://lindaliukas.com/) to teach programming through the use of stories, in addition, the Cubetto robot (https://www.primotoys.com/es/), sequences and puzzles. For primary education, textual and visual metaphors have been used thanks to the PrimaryCode system (http://www.lite.etsii.urjc.es/tools/primarycode/), and the Educational Apps CompThinkApp (http://www.lite.etsii.urjc.es/tools/compthink-app/) and Scratch (https://scratch.mit.edu/).

23 students have participated in this II Edition of the project, taking the teaching of programming to 6 schools, both public and private or concerted, in the Community of Madrid and Toledo. With this initiative, it has been possible to reach 441 infant education students, 582 primary education students and 20 primary education teachers.

The activities of this project closed with the 'II Seminar on Evaluation of the Transfer of Programming Teaching to the School', which took place on February 26 at the Móstoles Campus.
