This contest, originating from the University of Queensland, in Australia, began in 2008 and is a research communication test that is currently being held in different universities around the world.

After a preliminary phase of the URJC held in April on the Móstoles campus, in which a first screening was made on the Doctoral Theses that would be submitted to this contest, this Friday the classifieds competed against other Doctoral students from the Complutense University, from the University of Alcalá and the Autonomous University.

URJC doctoral student Milagros Rico Blázquez has been the winner of these awards in the category of health sciences. Her thesis 'Effectiveness of a nursing intervention in the quality of life of caregivers in primary care' has been the best in her category and the one that has earned her the award ahead of the rest of her works. The proposal of this thesis is the evaluation in a clinical trial of the effect of a nursing intervention, of care to care for the caregiver and improve her quality of life. All the care time required by a dependent person falls on the family, and the caregiver's health is affected by stress, anxiety and loss of social relationships. It is difficult to make visible that there are two people who need care, the dependent person and the caregiver.

This has been the only prize that the URJC has achieved in this edition of the contest, which has not had the same luck in the rest of the themes.

The participants in this event are students who are at least in the second year of doctoral programs at one of the convening universities. From the International Doctoral School (EID) of the URJC they affirm that "the 'Thesis in 3 Minutes' contest does not trivialize research, but rather develops the skills of students, helps build a culture of research and benefits foreign relations of University".

The participants had three minutes to present their research topic, its objectives, the problems identified, the contribution of said research to their solution and the impact that their work will have on society in general and on the academic and research community. in particular.

The contest is presented as a transversal training activity of the EID and is endowed with a prize for the winners in each branch of knowledge. The jury, to decide the winners in each area, has taken into consideration the clarity with which the research has been presented, if its objectives are interesting, if the language has been understandable and appropriate for a non-specialized audience, if important information has been provided and how the speaking time has been used.
