In an act held this Friday, Garrido acknowledged that "it is a great pride as a teacher to receive this recognition from the Ministry of Defense because of the work I do in favor of the dissemination and awareness of peace, security and defense in my classes".

The Ministry of Defense awards the Cross of Aeronautical Merit to people who work for the dissemination and knowledge of the role played by aspects such as defense and security in today's society, after decades of a great transformation of both concepts. The professor believes that "this is also a recognition and thanks to the URJC for its work in transmitting knowledge on defense and security in the degrees it offers and in the Francisco Villamartín Chair, of which I am director".

This is the second military decoration that Vicente Garrido receives as a civilian. "Normally, the Ministry of Defense only awards a decoration to a civilian, but in this case they wanted to make an exception for me because of my work at the university in favor of disseminating the security and defense of a country like Spain," he said. Garrido explained.

The first medal was the Naval Merit Cross, which was awarded to the professor in 2007, thanks to his important contribution to the debate on the state of security in Spain that existed at that time.
