Professor Rocío Samino organizes, together with her Marketing students, a concert for social integration

This activity is part of the practical training of students in the subject 'Communication Policy and Digital Advertising'. All these internships for service are framed within a group work that is part of the continuous curricular evaluation of the subject, to which all the students have accepted this course.

The teacher has recognized that this concert, which will take place next Friday, November 15 at 19:30 p.m. in the Vicálvaro Shopping Center, located opposite the URJC campus, is organized in collaboration with "the Fundación Desarrollo y Asistencia, within the project that we carry out called 'Open University Territory', where we use educational innovation through service learning to carry out these awareness-raising activities".

These activities carried out by Rocío Samino in her subject, some 8-10 per course for the last 3 years, have three objectives: "Achieve the acquisition of skills in students: general and specific to the subject, and social skills. Through a active practical learning methodology, opening the URJC campus to the territory where it is located, Vicálvaro, to present and establish a space for social encounters between the neighborhood and the University, and raise awareness of the need for integration and coexistence between migrants/refugees and residents of this district of Madrid (including the teaching and administrative staff and students of the FCJS), recognizing all of them as active protagonists of it, through the development of a communication plan and the implementation of a communication action", indicates the teacher.

These 'Service Learning' jobs are voluntary for students. “Students can opt for assessment work that does not involve service learning. This course, all students have opted for the Service Learning option,” says Samino.

All this is part of the student's learning process. "The acquisition of social skills is essential if we want future entrepreneurs, businessmen, managers and workers to have a social conscience and apply social responsibility policies in their work and personal life", acknowledges the professor.

On the other hand, there is also the personal achievement of the student by participating in this type of project for social purposes. "The personal satisfaction provided by carrying out activities of this type is high and the relationship with the students is much closer", points out Rocío Samino.

All the actions of the subject are carried out under the 'Service Learning' actions and have been carried out thanks to the collaboration of the Faculty of Legal and Social Sciences of the URJC, and the Fundación Desarrollo y Asistencia. For this specific action, the students have also obtained the collaboration of the Vicálvaro Municipal School of Music and the Vicálvaro Shopping Centre.

"The students have developed the action under the supervision of the teaching staff of the subject and of the Foundation, as well as all the activities. The objective is the one indicated above, which is common to all the activities carried out," the professor concludes. of the URJC.
