The students of the degree in Fashion Design and Management exhibit their work at the MB Fashion Week

The degree is the only one in all of Spain that offers this type of training within the scope of public universities. This year more than 1.400 students have applied for a place in this degree, which has a cut-off mark of 11,9.

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid starts this week and will be available in the IFEMA pavilions until February 2.  For the third consecutive year, The degree in Fashion Design and Management from the Rey Juan Carlos University, with the support of the Office of the Vice President for University Extension, is taking part in this important event in the sector by exhibiting some of the best work by the students of the degree at a URJC stand.

The degree of the University will not only be present in this MB Fashion Week Madrid with a stand, but will participate with a conference, within the 'OFF' section of the fair, on the necessary challenge posed by sustainability in fashion, entitled "Is it sustainable to be fashionable?". The activity will take place today, Monday, January 27, at 10 a.m. at the URJC headquarters in Quintana (Madrid), and it will deal with issues related to the need for a transition from the fashion sector to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly. The vice-rector for University Extension, David Ortega, who will present the day and professionals from the world of fashion, such as the president of the Association of Sustainable Fashion of Spain (AMSE), Marina López; Carmen Torres, general secretary of the Spanish Fashion Confederation and Rocío Ortiz, founding partner and CEO of 'La tecnocreativa'.

For Rafael Pérez Arroyo, coordinator of the degree in Fashion Design and Management at URJC, carrying out this type of activity with students is very important because "they help the student to have direct contact with the professional world of fashion so that they see how is it first-hand? In addition, Pérez Arroyo assures that "it also helps them gain visibility" because "by exhibiting their work at a fair like this, which is one of the most important in the country, the students obtain great visibility for their talent and their work."

The fashion industry represents 3% of the GDP for Spain, being advanced only by other sectors such as Tourism or Banking, and every day more young people are interested in this world. For this reason, the Rey Juan Carlos University wanted to respond to student demand when it launched this degree four years ago.

The first class of graduates in Fashion Design and Management of the Rey Juan Carlos University will see the light of day in this 2019/2020 academic year, being also the first class of graduates in this field of all Spanish public universities.
