A new installment of URJCmun starts this morning. For four days, several students will put themselves in the shoes of national representatives and will debate some of the most important issues in the world today and that are the backbone of international political agendas.
In the 2019 edition, the participation exceeded a thousand people, and for the one that begins today, the number is expected to increase by around 100 more. Like last year, the 2020 URJCmun will be located on the Móstoles campus.
Lots of pre-work
Despite the hustle and bustle, the nerves and the final preparations, some of the people in charge of the URJCmun explain to us: "The organizers of the event have been working for a year, and the volunteer members, since September." They hope that the effort will be rewarded and that it will be an edition of ten.
"This year, we have managed to increase the number of committees to sixteen, and we have also obtained two more sponsors," they point out, citing their website, urjcmun.com, in which everything is explained in detail. They even add some recommendations for transport, accommodation and tourism in the city of Madrid.
The event uses a formula similar to that of the United Nations: the committees and the agencies. In them, the students must represent a country and its ideas and positions, so that a previous study and analysis of the positions of the country that they have had to represent is needed, even more so when these have nothing to do with those of the student. in question.
However, not everything in URJCmun is debate and confrontation of ideas. There is also space for social events, especially the Global Village (which this year will take place on Wednesday at 20:00 p.m.). And, of course, for the party, whose highest point will take place on the last day, Friday.
An event with history
This is already the eighth edition of an initiative promoted by the Association for Humanitarian and Student Development (ADHUE) with the aim of awakening the interest of the university community in the United Nations Models. The first sessions took place in 2013, on the Madrid campus, and were limited to URJC students.
Since then, URJCmun has grown exponentially, to the point where a Security Council in English was inaugurated. In addition, URJCmun became one of the most important in Europe and in the world as of the 2015 edition.
