Marta Garrido, a graduate of the Faculty of Health Sciences, has won the third prize in the II AET-SALUSPLAY Research Contest for the best TFG-TFM in Occupational Nursing. The research work, defended in the 2018-2019 academic year, deals with the historical evolution of Occupational Nursing, and was directed by FCS professor Isidoro Jiménez Rodríguez, who has also been a nursing professional for several years.

Garrido comments that "for a student who graduated a few months ago, it is a source of pride that they recognize the work that I have developed with so much determination and involvement." The research tutor himself indicates that he feels “great satisfaction” for the award: “The TFGs involve cooperative work where student and teacher interact. A teacher-student relationship is established that is very enriching for both”.

The success of this research work, which will be published in the journal Nursing at Work/International Journal of Occupational Health Nursing as a prize in the contest, has made the URJC graduate feel "capable of carrying out other work and research that is of interest to the nursing community”.

Occupational Nursing, one of the best defined and legislatively protected areas

Marta Garrido's research, tutored by Isidoro Jiménez, aimed to carry out a historical review of Occupational Nursing. As Garrido and Jiménez explain, the starting point was a “bibliographic review of 36 sources. Both primary and secondary, which consisted of texts on the history of the profession and articles from specialized magazines, among others. Afterwards, all the existing legislation on this specialty was located and an analysis was carried out”.

The main conclusions that the investigation has yielded are, among others, that at the end of the s. XIX and beginning of the s. XX began to establish various laws to protect these workers, so it is one of the oldest branches. In addition, it is also concluded that the unification of all the branches of nursing allowed the empowerment of the nursing group and, in turn, the development of the Occupational Nursing specialty.
