A website with all the information about being a woman in the labor market

The site, open for two months, was created with the aim of disseminating the project of a research group

Jaime Riveiro Fernandez

As part of the R&D research project "Research Challenges" granted within the framework of the State R&D&i Program oriented to the Challenges of Society of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, the website bewomanandwork.es. The research group carrying out the study is directed by María Luisa Molero Marañón, Professor of Labor Law and Social Security at the Rey Juan Carlos University, and they seek to make "a diagnosis of all the specific difficulties that women have in the labor market, both in access and within it; and fundamentally carry out a multidisciplinary study”, explains María Begoña García Gil, professor of Labor Law and Social Security at the URJC, member of the work team and responsible for the website.

The object of study can be analyzed from the different areas of knowledge thanks to the varied origin of each of the members of the group. It is made up mainly of professionals in Labor Law and Social Security, but also experts in Civil Law and in other disciplines that are far removed from these, such as Sociology, Economics and Social Work. As if that were not enough, they also have researchers from Italy, France and Sweden; promoting the international scope of the project.

What does the website offer?

The website was recently created with the idea of giving visibility to the research project and the contents have been distributed in such a way that each member who is a specialist in a specific topic is responsible for feeding that information into the website. In this way, work is done both at a joint level and at an individual level, giving rise to sections such as "Women in figures", for example, which is mostly carried out by economists. "What we have tried is to gather on the website all the information in the world of women in relation to the labor market, and we also have it as up-to-date as possible," says García.

To do this, there are a large number of sections that address the different areas. In this sense, it is possible to access the main regulations, the most recent jurisprudence, of which a brief summary of sentences and courts is made, links to events, both their own and those carried out externally, to news, among others. They have also created other more special aspects, such as the "Woman had to be" section, honoring a sector each month or highlighting women who have received special recognition. In addition, to always be up to date, the "News" section will contain all the news, both national and international, events and courts every day, so that the user does not miss anything.

The future of the research group

The research project has a duration of three years, “so we want to keep the website alive until then, then we will even try to continue with it”, confesses García. Regarding the project, the team is in phase one of research and in April they deliver the research for publication, in the first part of a work divided into three objectives: access and main contracting conditions, care and work-life balance. co-responsibility and safety, occupational health and social protection. "Each member has a part in the project, and we work individually and collectively continuously, at a national and international level, especially with Europe," says García. On the other hand, they are going to organize more events in the future, for example, on March 8, World Working Women's Day. “Our idea is to dynamically offer research, scientific publication and events related to women and the world of work”, concludes García.

In addition to the website, the project is supported by social networks, with accounts on Instagram, Facebook y Twitter.
