Applications of the arts to health, valuable contributions made by Professor Amador Cernuda

The Master Conference for the inauguration of the Medical Congress of Cuba, MediGuaso 2021, has been given by Doctor Amador Cernuda of the Alicia Alonso University Institute of Dance, belonging to the FCJS.

Professor Amador Cernuda has given the inaugural Conference of the MediGuaso 2021 Congress, of great importance at the international level due to the relevance and influence of Cuba in the research and application of medical sciences. The theme of this conference, for the first time given by a foreign specialist, has been "Psychological effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the contributing benefits of the arts in recovery", in this area the Alicia Alonso University Institute of Dance has carried out highly relevant research.

This Congress, held in person at the University of Guantánamo, has been attended by prestigious medical specialists and relevant health researchers, rectors of universities in Cuba and other Latin American countries and the highest Cuban health authorities and directors of the main hospitals.

The investigations carried out by the Alicia Alonso University Institute of Dance are based on clinical treatments with the support of the arts, that is, as Professor Cernuda explains in "tpsychological techniques reinforced with artistic procedures validated by experimentation, fundamentally Psychoballet" that "promotes the quality of life and global evolution of psychiatric patients and people with different problems of functional diversity". This technique is recognized by UNESCO as an innovative contribution to science, health and therapy from the arts.

From the Alicia Alonso University Institute of Dance they have worked in several hospitals and health institutions both in Spain and in other countries with people with Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and hyperactivity with excellent results, increasing the quality of life of patients. Psychoballet is also used in other areas such as prevention programs for sexual exploitation and drug addiction, racism management and support programs for cancer patients.

Research and clinical treatments carried out by the Alicia Alonso University Institute of Dance have received different international awards that have given great visibility to the URJC, considered the most relevant institution at an international level, in this area of ​​research.
