The Rey Juan Carlos University is holding an online conference on the role of women during the pandemic next Tuesday, October 5. Under the title 'The woman at the center of the Covid-19 crisis. Historical, legal, social and economic analysis of its causes, effects and recovery initiatives', the Faculty of Legal and Social Sciences organizes this congress on a topic "very topical, but of which knowledge is lacking", indicates Carmen Romero, professor of the URJC and organizer of the event.

The teacher explains the origin of the idea: “When they proposed to hold a congress, I didn't hesitate too much. It is a topic that interests me a lot and is very current”. One of the main issues of the meeting will be gender violence, which will occupy the first table of the morning, at 09:30. "During the pandemic we saw in the news how cases of gender violence increased and it is something that we find important to occupy a table," adds Romero.

Gender violence or mental health, among the topics of the presentations

Professors Sandra López de Zubiria and Mª Isabel Cepeda González will participate in this first presentation, together with Mª Isabel Sanchís Vila, advisory member of the Support Unit of the Government Delegation against Gender Violence of the Ministry of Equality. According to Romero, the other two tables will not focus on a single topic, but "will deal with various issues related to women."

At 12:15 the second presentation will begin with Professor Claudia Gago, who will talk about women in the academic career; the military psychologist, Vanesa Simón, who will share her vision on mental health and Covid-19; and finally the Civil Guard sergeant, Alberto Quirón, who will offer a talk on the fight against human trafficking in times of pandemic.

The last table of the afternoon will take place at 16:00 p.m. and will focus on fiscal measures and proposals at the head of the European Union with Úrsula Von der Leyen as the woman who leads the body in times of Covid-19. Professors María Carmen Banacloche, Elena Díaz, Julio Guinea and José Enrique Anguita will participate.

Participation in the congress already amounts to 200 registered and is still open through the email of Professor Carmen Romero (). The congress will be recognized with 0,45 ECTS, for students who attend. More information in the following link.
