The next few decades will be determined by the decisions in different areas (political, strategic, economic and social, among others) of the United States, China and Russia. The objective of the conference 'The Triangle of World Hegemony', which will be held on Tuesday, October 5 at the Madrid campus, is precisely to examine the relations and frictions between the three existing powers today.

To this end, says the professor of the Faculty of Legal and Social Sciences, Vicente Garrido Rebolledo, "we are going to offer a complete approach, providing both a classic vision of International Relations (IR), focused on strategic-military aspects, as well as a more multidisciplinary”.

This broad perspective of the relations between these three powers is what is intended to be achieved with the chosen speakers. On the one hand, Colonel José Pardo de Santayana, main analyst of the Spanish Institute for Strategic Studies. On the other hand, Eduardo Saldaña, URJC graduate and co-director of the website specializing in international information and analysis, 'The World Order'.

With the conference, explains Vicente Garrido, “we want to explain the fragile balance between the powers, at a time of important rivalry. We believe that the International Relations student should be aware of current affairs in International Relations and more so in an issue like this, which is not temporary, but rather will define, at least, the next decade”.

The speakers will analyze aspects such as the impact of the recent agreement of the United States with Australia and the United Kingdom for the manufacture of nuclear submarines and the establishment of the 'AUKUS' alliance, to confront China; the role of the Asian giant in Africa or Central Asia, or the tensions between Russia and the United States and the Western world, among other topics.

The meeting, which will be held in hybrid mode, has already completed its face-to-face capacity of 60 people. It will take place in the assembly hall of the Madrid campus library, and can also be followed live on TVURJC. The Conference has the collaboration of the student association, ADHUE, responsible, among other initiatives, for organizing the URJC Mun.

This is the first of the four high-level conferences that Professor Vicente Garrido has prepared, the following ones will have to do with the international role of India, Turkey and Mexico. For the first of them, the presence of the Indian ambassador in Spain has already been confirmed.
