Today's society is aware of the importance of language and language, a faculty present in all cultures and of vital value for the development of societies. However, not everyone knows the work of linguists and what is studied within this scientific discipline.

The URJC's degree in Spanish Language and Literature aims to disseminate and value this area of knowledge among university students through a meeting that will be attended by professionals from the sector. The Conference on Language Dissemination will be held in person this Friday, October 8, starting at 16:00 p.m. in the Ricardo Pérez-Amat auditorium on the Fuenlabrada campus. The meeting can also be followed virtually through the Teams platform.

Nerea Fernández and Macarena Gil, the professors in charge of organizing the conference, found the need to hold such an event at the university: “We believe that it is important that linguistics be disseminated because it is a subject that is not known much beyond of what is linked to the Royal Spanish Academy”, says Nerea Fernández.

The meeting also aims to be a showcase to publicize the work of linguists. For this reason, three professionals from the field have participated who will share their experiences and points of view. On the one hand, the writer Elena Álvarez Mellado, linguist and collaborator at elDiario.es, who will begin the day with the paper 'The revolution will be descriptivist (or it won't be)'.

It will be the turn of the renowned journalist and philologist, Arsenio Escolar, with 'Archiletras, a project for linguistic dissemination and research'. Finally, the event will be closed by Álex Herrero, writer, proofreader and editor, known for his work as a linguistic advisor at the Fundación del Español Urgente (Fundéu RAE).
