In tune with the commitment to sustainability that is prevailing in the most recent tourist proposals, the URJC, through its high-performance open innovation research group, OPENINNOVA, and the environmental sustainability consultancy, 'The Good Footprint', have just signed a framework agreement by which they will work together on various lines.

As Carmen de Pablos, professor of Business Organization at the URJC and director of OPENININOVA points out, "we are going to collaborate in the improvement and expansion of its Corporate Social Responsibility measurement system".

'La Buena Huella' is a consulting firm specialized in sustainability and environmental responsibility that has begun to develop projects with the tourism sector and has implemented the Sustainable Regenerative Tourism model to measure the possibilities of improvement of all the actors in the tourism sector based on different indicators. It has already developed successful models in hotels in Palma de Mallorca and destinations such as Lanzarote.

The OPENINNOVA group, specialized in working with open data, is also going to help the consultancy to expand its activity to other sectors and to "refine and improve its indicators", indicates De Pablos.

For its part, the University, through the group, achieves the publicity of the analysis methodology that it develops in its projects, in addition to the transfer of knowledge. "We have several researchers focused on the tourism sector who have analyzed the heritage tourism model and visitor loyalty strategies," says the professor.

In addition, the agreement gives the possibility for URJC students whose TFG and TFM are related to metrics based on open data and innovation, to apply their models in real practices and even have said models reviewed by business experts.

In addition, Carmen De Pablos points out, "the entire strategy of 'La Buena Huella' is part of the framework of compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations 2030 Agenda."

Open knowledge to improve companies

The OPENINNOVA group focuses on analyzing the institutional and business factors that promote open innovation practices. It is a research team in constant contact with the entrepreneurial ecosystem. In this way, those responsible for 'La Buena Huella' were able to contact the University, since they are located in the Vallecas business incubator, managed by the URJC.

In addition, every two years, they carry out a report in which they measure the state of reuse and quality of open spaces in the business world in Spain in relation to the EU. At this time we are about to close the 2021 report.
