The people of Madrid "return to the polls" hand in hand with the students

The Simulation of the Madrid Assembly, or SIAMAD, is the new ASESP project that will be held between October 26 and 29 on the Fuenlabrada campus

The Student Association of Parliamentary Simulations (ASESP) starts this new academic year with a new project: the Simulation of the Madrid Assembly, or SIAMAD. Organized mainly by URJC students, students will have the opportunity to put themselves in the role of Madrid deputies to debate and seek solutions on the latest news.

The Simulation will take place between October 26 and 29 at the URJC's Fuenlabrada campus. SIAMAD is expected to have about 150 participants. This activity also has the recognition of 1,65 RAC credits.

An approximate simulation of reality

SIAMAD participants will be part of six different commissions, where they will debate a wide variety of topics, such as education, employment and housing. The ultimate goal of the Simulation is "to reach effective consensus for all citizens" through agreements, laws and pacts between the different parties, which will represent the political reality of the Spanish capital.

In times of uncertainty, understanding what is happening around us is of vital importance. Transmitting this knowledge in an interactive and realistic way is the main objective of Parliamentary simulations. “Currently in Spanish politics, the Community of Madrid is in the spotlight”, explains Paula López Cardín, president of ASESP and General Director of SIAMAD. “Many of the decisions that are made in the capital come from outside.” In addition, it is an opportunity for those students who come from other autonomous communities and want to get to know the political panorama of Madrid more closely. At the end of the day, the proposed amendments will be analyzed and voted on in the different commissions throughout the simulation.

On the other hand, it is not necessary to be a deputy to be part of SIAMAD. The simulation also has a protocol team, which deals with the logistics of the event; and another press, written and television team. In this way, many students with diverse interests, careers and concerns can learn about the Madrid Assembly. “I think that what most represents SIAMAD is the reality that we give it from the organization, and the reality that the participants”, concludes Paula López.
