The URJC is proclaimed champion of women's futsal in the Spanish University Championship

The south pavilion of the UPM was, on October 26 and 27, the official venue for the Spanish University Futsal Championship. The eight best universities in Spain in terms of university futsal met there.  

The URJC took the cat to the water in the final against the University of Alicante in the lottery of penalties (4-2) after the draw 2-2 in regulation time. Previously, the URJC girls had beaten teams like the University of Almería, the University of Barcelona and the University of Zaragoza in the group stage. As Alfonso Catalina, one of the two technicians of the URJC team, tells us, in the first phase some of the favorite teams were avoided, such as UCAM or their rivals in the final, the University of Alicante, since “they were teams that completely they compete as a team in the Spanish First Division League”. 

“The key in the group stage and the goal we set ourselves in each game was to get ahead on the scoreboard, which is why we pressed full-strength from the start, since we were aware that the games consisted of two ten-minute halves, and if you start below the score, it is much more complicated to turn the score around”, explains the Rey Juan Carlos University coach. That marked throughout the championship the hallmark of the Madrid team. But that was not the only key to success, since the soccer players formed "a human group that is unbeatable, and the results are linked to that".   

The technicians of the URJC team, Alfonso Catalina and Malika Lozano, believe that the victory of these women must serve to promote University sports as much as possible, since competing against universities that have part of their prestige focused on the sport that a turning point.
