Image and politics, although they may seem like two very distant aspects, have a very close relationship. It becomes even narrower in today's world, where social networks and perception can “make or break” the political game.

In order to analyze these two disciplines, the 4st Conference “The discourse of aesthetics in politics” was born. Organized by the group ArteContarDerecho (Arcode), its purpose is to discuss and analyze, in an interactive way, the importance of the image as a political tool. The conference will take place on November 5 and 0,5 in a hybrid format: face-to-face at the URJC headquarters in Quintana, and telematically through a transmission through Microsoft Teams. The activity also has a recognition of XNUMX RAC credits.

Politics from a new perspective

The idea of these conferences was born as a cross between two disciplines: law and fashion management. “It is not a topic that is frequently discussed, but we can always find points of connection between the different branches of knowledge,” says Esther González Hernández, professor of Constitutional Law at the URJC and director of the conference. She organizes this event together with Cecilia Rosado Villaverde and Manuel Álvarez Torres, both professors at the Rey Juan Carlos University. The meeting has aroused a lot of interest from the students. Until now, some 75 people have registered for the event between the two modalities, and it is expected that the face-to-face capacity will be completely filled.

The conference is structured in four round tables that will feature speakers from different universities and public and private institutions. Among these, there are the professors of the URJC, Complutense University of Madrid, University of Lleida and the UNED; in addition to the director of Commissions of the Congress of Deputies, Blanca Hernández Oliver, and the Citizen Communications Coordinator, Pablo Sarrión López. Some of the topics to be discussed are the evolution of political aesthetics, its relationship with the media, the image of parties and protocol.

One of the main objectives of this event is to create a bilateral and interactive meeting. Each round table will have presentations of between 15 and 20 minutes, and the rest of the hour will open a dialogue between the speakers and the public. “We want to provide learning from an attractive and participatory point of view”, concludes Esther González.

Although this is the first time that this event has been held, the organization team intends to make it an ongoing event. It is planned that the second edition of the conference, to be held in 2022, will deal with political aesthetics and television.
