The Youth Institute (Injuve) has presented the National Youth Awards, recognitions of the career and effort of people under 30 years of age who stand out for their dedication to their work and their personal involvement in different areas of society such as the environment, social commitment, the defense of human rights, culture, science and technology or sports.

Jaime Andrés Mariño, student of the Double Degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences with Primary Education by the URJC, has received an honorable mention in the Sports category of these awards, at the proposal of the Madrid Cycling Federation. In the awards ceremony, the student spoke about his relationship with sports activity and what benefits he has in society.

"Sport is an activity that has a very positive influence on society, it can help improve people's quality of life and provide new positive values such as cooperation, responsibility or respect," says Mariño. The student talks about sports practice as a method to quantify achievements.

“In the case of cycling, for example, in the first month you are able to pedal 20 km, but then you start doing 30 km, 40 km and so on. This helps people see that they have potential that they have yet to discover and that is a very beautiful thing: discovering that there is something beyond your comfort zone”, she reflects.

Mariño considers it important to apply this thought in the mentality of young people "because we have a long life ahead of us and we must look for that project that motivates us and makes us happy and, if in this way we can help society in any way, then much better." ; either being an example of improvement in sports or creating an innovative element in the field of science, for example”.

Jaime Andrés Mariño combines his studies with cycling, a discipline in which he has been awarded numerous times. Recently, he got the 3rd and 4th place in the European Cup, held in Cáceres on October 23 and 24 and these days he is preparing for the Spanish Road Adaptive Cycling Championship, which is held on November 6 and 7. .
