Awarded the international awards for "Intelligent Energy"

The Campus of International Excellence call, developed by the UAH and the URJC, is intended to recognize the best collaborative research projects, doctoral theses, patents, Final Degree Projects and Final Master's Projects.

Yesterday, December 2, the prizes were awarded Campus of International Excellence "Intelligent energy" of the years 2020 and 2021. Focused on recognizing the works related to clean technologies and the smart cities, have five different categories: best joint scientific contribution, patent, thesis, Final Degree Project (TFG) and Final Master's Project (TFM). Undergraduate, master's and doctoral students, as well as research teaching staff, from the URJC and UAH were able to participate in this call. This year, the awards for both 2020 and 2021 have been delivered, since the previous year it was not possible to deliver. The event took place at the University of Alcalá and could be followed through a broadcast.

A joint pride of two universities

Among the URJC awards are Alejandra Sánchez and Héctor Hernando for their best doctoral theses in 2020 and 2021, respectively; Daniel Sánchez for the best TFM of 2021; and Pablo Rosado, Erik Diaz and Laura De Diego for the best Final Projects of 2020 and 2021. In the category of Best Joint Scientific Contribution, different researchers from both the Rey Juan Carlos University and the University of Alcalá received an award, who collaborated to achieve the results, including David Melcho, Mihaela Chidean, David Castillas, Félix Labrador in the 2020 edition; and Antonio José Camaño in 2021.

Finally, the award for the Best Patent was given to the project “Method of reception (demodulation) of multicarrier signals wavelet-OFMD, corresponding devices to receive” of the UAH.

In his speech, the rector of the Rey Juan Carlos University, Javier Ramos, thanked all the award-winning authors for their efforts, 'on behalf of our universities, but also of all citizens today and future generations.'

For his part, the rector of the University of Alcalá, José Vicente Saz, pointed out that 'we are aware of the work and sacrifice that underlie each of these achievements, how complex the task is, and the patience and perseverance to not give up, nor abandon a passion for innovation and research, which is becoming more and more important in our complex and changing society, in which the role of universities is becoming more and more essential'.

National reference

The “Intelligent Energy” Campus of International Excellence is the result of collaboration between two public universities, the Rey Juan Carlos University and the University of Alcalá. Thanks to its joint effort and collaboration with various relevant companies in the sector, such as Repsol and Ferrovial, as well as with the Center for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research (CIEMAT) and the Madrid Institute for Advanced Energy Studies (IMDEA Energy), it has managed to become a benchmark in the fields of bioenergy and smart infrastructure.
