April 1 (1A, IA) is the day chosen by the URJC School of Computer Engineering to celebrate the first Artificial Intelligence (AI) Day at the university.

To this end, a day has been scheduled in which the highlight is the presentation of the new degree in Artificial Intelligence at the URJC, which has become the first generalist university in Madrid to provide training of these characteristics.

It is a degree, as pointed out by the ETSII professor, Juan José Pantrigo, organizer of the conference, which will provide the future student with "a solid training in computer science and AI with which they will be able to access the labor market of computer science and expand in the AI sector with all the applications that this discipline has”. Artificial Intelligence is already used regularly in the sectors of health, biology or smart urban planning, among many others. In addition, Pantrigo indicates, if the student wants to delve deeper, "they will be able to dedicate themselves with a master's specialization towards a doctorate in AI and will have all the necessary base to generate new knowledge in a doctorate."

The possibilities of AI

Accompanying the presentation of the degree, several of the research projects that are currently being developed at the ETSII will be presented, where topics such as computers that create their own programs, bio-inspired algorithms, that is, problem solving emulating nature, or the creation of digital avatars with AI, among others.

The opinion of the industry

The industry related to AI also has its place in this first URJC Artificial Intelligence Day. For this, a round table has been scheduled in which several companies that are dedicated to exploiting the applications of this technology will value the AI professional in the current and future labor market and will talk about the specific needs that these have with respect to specialized profiles. in Artificial Intelligence.

Study AI at URJC

Artificial Intelligence is destined to transform the world we live in. “AI is expected to improve our lives in a radical way. We are living a revolution comparable to the one experienced in the Industrial Revolution”, points out Juan José Pantrigo.

The professor indicates that studying Artificial Intelligence can attract all kinds of profiles “both people with a more pragmatic profile and those with a more romantic profile. To the pragmatist I would say to enter their favorite search engine and look for Artificial Intelligence job offers, to the romantic that if they are interested in studying a scientific-technological degree, it is one of the most attractive. The ramifications reach all areas of knowledge, medicine, smart cities, biology, etc.”

In addition, at the URJC and the ETSII, "we have enviable means and facilities, a large number of teachers and researchers who dedicate their time entirely to the development of Artificial Intelligence and, according to what students who come from other places tell us , a very close attention to the student, since they point out that we are there when they need us, for tutorials or personal support, they recognize us as a teacher who is very involved with the student”, says Pantrigo.

Artificial Intelligence Day is celebrated this Friday, April 1, in the Aula Magna of Lecture Hall II of the Móstoles Campus from 09:15 and will be inaugurated by the Vice-Rector for Innovation, Transfer and Business Relations, Fernando García Muiña.

This date intends to remain as fixed in the calendar of events of the University. It will serve to highlight the URJC's commitment to innovation and demonstrate that the institution moves with the times.
