Since 1948, April 7 has been celebrated as World Health Day. Although it was born to raise awareness about global deadly diseases, each year a theme is chosen based on the needs and suggestions made by the member states of the WHO. In the midst of a pandemic, of a polluted planet, of an increase in diseases such as cancer, asthma and heart disease, this year the WHO will carry the slogan “Our planet, our health” as its flag.

From the Healthy University Program of the URJC they have wanted to contribute their grain of sand and have organized a wellness-oriented one this week. "With this, we intend to commemorate World Health Day, making visible the importance of correct lifestyles and focusing on the different groups of our University Community", they comment from the organization. This year one of the highlights is being the space for the participation of students, who have organized some of the activities this week.

Ainhoa Romero and Silvia Cruz, from the Healthy University Program, say that the project tries to get students to build wellness habits that help them live better. “This type of event contributes to making the importance of valuing our health more visible, but the reality is that we must do it day by day. That is one of our main objectives as a service”, they affirm.

The activities of World Health Day will feature different profiles of professionals in the health field. The colloquium on skin cancer prevention will feature an expert multidisciplinary team made up of Ángeles Moreno, Principal Investigator of the Comunicancer Project and professor and researcher of the Group for Advanced Studies in Communication at the Rey Juan Carlos University; Ainara Soria, oncologist at the Ramón y Cajal Hospital; and Magdalena Toya, Head of the Dermatology service at Hospital Costa del Sol.

On the other hand, there will be the workshops created by students of the Rey Juan Carlos University, such as: "The Museum of the City-ODS" or the relaxation workshops for exam times. The activity "Prevention of postural pain" will be carried out by the physiotherapists Sofía Laguarta, professor at the URJC, and Ricardo Moreta.

Although there are activities for the entire University Community, from Universidad Saludable they comment that during the events of this world day “the activities are intended to focus on the real needs of each group. In this sense, there are activities that are aimed only at students, such as relaxation spaces to better face the exam period, and others focus on the PDI and PAS”.
