The seminar "Philosophy of Mind" continues

The activity, organized by the Arjé Philosophy Association, kicked off on April 19, and continues with new presentations today and on May 3.

Alberto Gómez

The philosophy of mind is a field of philosophical reflection in which issues related to the body and the mental processes that occur within it are worked on. Today, this issue is more alive than ever and the progress of new technologies and the intelligence of these machines is one of the fundamental points to be analysed.

For this reason, the Arjé Philosophy Association has organized a series of presentations in the Hall of Degrees of the Departmental Building of the Fuenlabrada Campus. There, a week ago, the different presentations began that aim to cover the subject of philosophy of mind that is seen in passing during the itinerary of the Degree in Philosophy.

Today, Wednesday 26, the second part of this event will take place. From 11:00 a.m. to 13:45 p.m., attendees will be able to learn from María Rubio, a 4th-year Philosophy student at URJC, Elena del Castillo, a 6th-year Triple Degree student in Philosophy, Politics and Economics, and Raquel de la Order, Graduated in Psychology from Loyola University.

“The philosophy of mind is an area that gives rise to interdisciplinarity, since not only philosophers work on it, but also psychologists, physicists and mathematicians, among others, for which reason their research is very fruitful and has given rise to a great number of unquestionably topical debates. In the topics of the Seminar papers we have tried to show the rich variety of these topics and debates”, they explain from the Philosophy Delegation of the Rey Juan Carlos University.

For this reason, the Seminar is intended for anyone who is interested in this field. And it is that, being such an interdisciplinary subject, it is not necessary to have high knowledge in philosophy. From the organization they affirm that "the papers deal with Artificial Intelligence, going through mathematics, physics and even linguistics and psychology, so that any student will be welcome".

To close this seminar, on May 3, there will be talks by URJC Philosophy professors Alejandro Fernández Cuesta and Karim Gherab Martín, who will be followed by Antonio Luis Terrones Rodríguez, researcher at the CSIC and the University of Valencia. .
