The Rey Juan Carlos University Orchestra participates this Thursday and Friday in the musical 'Scaramouche', an adaptation of the Catalan production by the company Dagoll Dagom. The project is the result of collaboration between the URJC musical group and students from the Royal School of Dramatic Art (RESAD).
Set during the French Revolution, 'Scaramouche' is a musical comedy that tells the story of a starving people punished by an authoritarian and unjust nobility. Citizens, upset with this situation, begin to consider the need for change.
In a context of revolt and conflict, Scaramouche, a masked hero, will be the defender of the people who will write revolutionary pamphlets and will confront the aristocracy, offering hope to the citizens.
The work is the final year project of several RESAD students, who invited the URJC Orchestra to set the performance to music. “I had already worked with RESAD before the pandemic, they asked me to be in charge of the musical direction and I thought it was very interesting that our orchestra could get involved,” says Gemma Camps, director of the URJC Orchestra.
The adaptation respects the original score of the work, something that has been a "challenge" as it is music written for a professional orchestra. “It is without a doubt the most ambitious project that I have done with the group”, recognizes the director in that sense.
The functions to see 'Scaramouche' in the Valle Inclán Hall of the RESAD have schedules in the afternoon and tomorrow, at 11:45 and 18:00 this Thursday and Friday.
